Why are my two sharpened edges different

Sharpened my Izula last night and although I got it hair popping sharp I noticed the shiny just sharpened edges are different sizes from one side of the blade to the other.

Each side is consistent from tip to handle and look great but just different from side A to side B of the blade.

I assume since the width of the shiny part of bladge edge are different widths then the bevel is different on both sides. I use a Lansky style holder with my Loray 1x30 belt sanding system. The knife was not crooked in the clamp and I used fairly consistent pressure doing both sides of the knife so I can't figure out how the bevels could be that visible different.

I couldn't get cheapo camera to get a close enough view to make sense as a visual.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If you're sure the angles are the same on both sides, then the edge is off center. Over your next few sharpenings, make an extra pass or two on the more narrow side... over time it will even out.

When using exacting angles you will often find that the main grinds per side are what is off and not your bevel.

Sometimes I get that even when sharpening with a guide . It won't affect the cutting ability of that blade as long as the bevels match and have no burrs . Just over time you can adjust the other bevel over some to match up better . So, use it, enjoy it and dull it . Then think about and give it another shot . DM

Usually this happens when you work on one side of the edge too much. The angle will still be the shame on both sides but, one side is just longer than the opposite side of the edge. A good example to use is when sharpening a planer blade 99.99% of the sharpening is done on one side of the planers edge. The only work done on the reverse side is enough to remove any slight burr that may have appeared.

You said that you were using a Lansky style clamp. If I remember correctly the Izula is a full flat grind? If that's the case there would be no parallel surface on the blade for the clamp to grab and "center" the blade so it could be tilted slightly in the clamp. That would cause the edges to be uneven.

I know with my wicked edge system the are videos on their website that show you how to sharpen full flat grind knives with that system. That same technique may work on your Lansky.
