Seriously, how does “Fixed Blades” not have it’s own section?
Traditional folders and fixed blades are completely polar opposites. They have nothing to do with each other so why group them together. Is there just not that many fixed blade people here to have it’s own sub forum?
If you’re into fixed blades and want your own section let’s hear it.
And if you’re into traditional folders and want the fixed blade clutter out of your section let’s hear it.
I personally love both but would much rather see only one or the other when I want to.

I believe the word "traditional" is the modifier, as in: Traditional folders and traditional fixed blades. If you want a modern fixed blade sub forum, you could ask about it in the tech support sub forum. Right now, I think fixed blade discussion is spread between General discussion, Kitchen knives, etc.

I hear you, but why wouldn’t there be a “traditional knives” section that covers all traditional knives, fixed and folders and a “fixed blades” section for all the bushcrafter type people and modern fixed blades.
Makes no sense to me and has been driving me crazy. Lol.

This exists. You want a more modern fixed blade BBS make you pitch to Spark. There's already a bushcraft forum.

Seems like fixed blades are the most traditional knives of all. Where do you draw the line between traditional fixed and modern fixed? That might drive the moderators crazy!

Yeah I agree with you on that. There’s not much more traditional than a fixed blade. Any folder is actually modern compared to a fixed blade.
I guess what I’m looking for is a “traditional folders” section and a “fixed blades” section.
That just seems to make the most sense to me.

The moderns are talked about in General and the Outdoors forums?

I understand that this forum is for tradition folders and traditional fixed blades.
I just see mostly traditional folders talked about here which is great. But fixed blade knives in general are awesome and I wish there was a home for them without a bunch of other stuff getting in the way.

This is the traditional knives section the TITLE of which is Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades, like r8shell r8shell suggested if you want a modern fixed, or bushcrafter sub forum, ask more people in the modern knives sections to petition the tech people to start one. Some fixed could cross over from traditional and a bushcraft fixed blade, as most knives used for bushcraft are traditionals. However most modern/tactical knives won't. For instance you won't see me post a pic of my Gerber Strongarm as I feel its to modern. My Buck mesa would be borderline, the current sheath I feel is no go, but if it had a nice leather one, maybe. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't have a problem with that either.

Most of the knives I own are traditional, either fixed blades or folders. It seems right and natural to me to find them both in the same subforum. I certainly do not feel oppressed by having them together.

When I first came to BF, I was looking for info on Opinels and Moras, and found them both in Traditionals. They have a lot in common as old, simple, inexpensive, very effective designs with some history behind them. It would not set at all well to separate them.

At the same time, I was exposed to the world of traditional slipjoints, which was pretty much alien to me at the time. I learned a lot about a new subject, and ended up buying quite a few.

BTW, machetes are even more awesome than fixed blades, yet they do not appear anywhere in a subforum heading. Nevertheless, it is not too difficult to find them. They do not really need a separate section. Every forum has threads that do not particularly interest me. I don’t read them.

I can't figure out what exactly makes a fixed blade a traditional one so I don't post mine whereas I have a fairly good idea what makes a traditional folder (although a few knives accepted here blur the lines). I have a small fixed blade by Arno Bernard with bone handles. Is that traditional? What about my Tom Krein with Richlite (basically a micarta) handles and "modern" steel? Those aren't directed at you it's just a reason why I don't post mine.

Moderators please forgive the modern intruders. We are essentially talking aesthetics here. All are very basic fixed blades, 2 of these are "modern" 2 of these are "traditional" can anyone guess which are which? Just to further illustrate that basically the traditional sub forum is about how a knife looks,

These are ALL by definition lock blade folding knives. 2 of which are specificly liner locks, both on right. One is Traditional one is modern. This sub forum is not about what these objects ARE it is about their STYLE.

A & C are traditional, of course. Beautiful knives! (I love easy tests!)

Tradition folders and tradition fixed blades. Why not the sameforum? The threads between the two are easy to distinguish.
