  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Why are Tweeners using Zytel over Grivory?

Pretty much the same thing, though I do find Grivory is a wee bit harder than Zytel. To me, Zytel feels like plastic, Grivory feels like good plastic. Probably costs a bit less, but it's pretty much the same thing, same properties and traits. I prefer Micarta and G10, but have no problems at all with either Grivory or Zytel.

Zytel and Grivory are basically the same thing from what I've been told by people who know these kinda things.

Nearly Identical in function but I Prefer grivory, if almost feels more like aluminum or ceramic as strange as that sounds:)

Grivory is a copy written name. When Ka Bar started making the stuff couldn't use the same name so they called it Zytel. Same stuff different name.

Why not bakelite, so it will match the pistol grip on my Maadi AKM47?

I plan on stripping my BK-15 and putting some white "ivory" micarta on it anyway.

I want some shadetree OD micarta for mine.

Sitting here fondling my bk2, I totally understand what you mean. I still ultimately prefer g10 :)

Grivory is a trademark of EMS-Grivory for fiberglass filled nylon. Zytel is a trademark of Dupont for fiberglass filled nylon. They both have many different formulations available with different fiberglass percentages and nylon blends. I suspect that a Dupont salesman offered a better price for the Zytel this year.
