They seem like great knives and I'm thinking of purchasing one, but they don't seem to hold their value very well and you hardly see them or hear about them. Is there a reason?

They were going for big bucks a few years back. But like most knives that happens to, they were a fad and people moved on

This isn't true. They aren't a "fad" any more than Hinderers or Medfords are fads. The facts are:

- Curtiss doesn't make a ton of knives, so there aren't a ton of them out there, or posted here.
- They tend to cost several hundred bucks (and up) so they're more expensive than knives from China, or a few other American makers made of the same materials.
- They are ti annoed framelock flippers in a market absolutely awash with framelock flippers.

So, there are reasons why you don't see many Curtiss knives, but them having been a "fad" isn't one of those reasons.

I've looked at them, kind of interested but like Medford they use a lot of steel in their blades, relatively thick blade stock. I like a little slicier blade but it does appear they put a nice hollow grind on them. As Quiet Quiet mentioned, it's a framelock flipper, getting pretty over those personally. They're generally priced above Hinderer, CRK and Spartan which may cause some to pause (like me). I may pick one up some day but I prefer studs, fullers and holes over flippers.

Ah ok, I remember seeing some going for double asking a few years back. Then the last time I looked they were selling for a lot less.. Sort of like the XM18 when it first came out. Maybe fad was the wrong term.

5+ years ago they were very popular as the titanium framelock flipper fad was at its height. Me, I never liked them, that giant pivot screw turned me off. Now, Titanium framelocks are for the most part a turn off for me, unless there is something unique about them. I own 0 plain Ti frame locks.

Also, I think with the Russians selling their (apparently) fantastic knives here for similar prices, they have edged out companies like Curtiss.

Never heard a single complaint about Curtiss knives since he decided to make his own knives.
... Well except for me. Even though I really don't want one anymore, he still doesn't make a lefty.
