Why aren't these more popular?

I bought myself some early holiday gifts this year, one of them being an Ahti knives "Metsa", from http://www.ragweedforge.com/.

I purchased the knife Sunday night and i received it this morning, and all i can say is wow. This knife is truly a piece of fine quality and craftsmanship.

Everything from both the sheath and the knife screams quality. The sheath itself is made from very fine leather, with great stitching and also has perfect retention. I personally have never handled a sheath that offers such balanced retention. I love the engraved eagle with the "Made in Finland" written above it.

The knife itself exceeds my high expectations. The blade itself is blackened with a nice polished "scandi" grind. Its very attractive, as well as being scary sharp.

However i believe the best feature of this knife is the handle. Its a beautiful stained curly birch, that fits my hands better then any other knife/tool i have ever handled. Its as if the handle was custom made for me. I just cannot get of the comfort of holding it. In fact as i write this i find it hard to resist the urge to fondle it.

Unfortunately i don't have a working camera, so i cannot post pics. But if you visit ragweeds website (posted above), or http://www.outyourbackdoor.com/article.php?id=816, you can see some pictures of it.

Overall I'm just surprised these knives don't get talked about all that much, especially considering how popular Mora's are.

Anyways i love this knife, and i highly recommend it. Thanks for reading.

I have that same knife. It seems to fit in a niche between the fancier more expensive brands like Karesuando and Helle, and the no-frills bargain-priced Mora lines.

Perhaps one reason Ahti knives aren't more popular, they aren't available at the large well-known dealers.

Ragnar, who runs Ragweedforge, carries a very well thought-out line of knives. It does not surprise me so much that Ahti are high quality. I love the Puukko-style.

Thanks for the report.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. I have the Juhla and it is an excellent knife. I bought it from a website in Finland and if I hadn't stumbled onto it I never would've heard of Ahti.
