I know there are a ton of Emerson fans out there. The only Emerson I've ever owned was a Benchmade CQC7 and it left me relatively unimprssed.

I like to look and experiment with different brands of knives and have been tempted to buy an Emerson just to see why everyone loves them so much.

Before I do that I wanted to hear why I should buy an Emerson over any other high end production liner lock? How is the lock? How thick are the liners? How do they compare to say a Buck Strider?

BTW, I should also state that I have pretty much gotten rid of all my liner locks due to reliability problems.

I am also fairly familiar with the Wave feature which I probably won't go with on this purchase.

Here are the models I like so far;
Green G-10 Commander
Specwar
Green G-10 Mach 1

So let's hear it!

Why i like me Emerson knives so much?

- 'cuz they fit my hand perfectly, i've been really spoiled by the deep finger cut-out of most models.
- they are (in most cases) waved, getting an Emerson without the wave is like having a burger without the sauce, or like having a Swedish blonde without big boobs or like having a knife without an edge, or..err...
- i can take it apart without voiding any warranty, or have to have tools like torx/spline drivers. And do take it apart, it makes it mor obvious why it's an excellent design. Much more sturdy then similar designs.
- i don't think that comparing them to Strider knives is fair, Striders are tools with a cutting edge, they are overbuilt which Emerson's knives aren't. (I love the Strider designs!)

Emersons knives might sometimes be somewhat rough, not too refined as a Microtech perhaps.
But in the end what you'll have will be a knife that is easy to use and feels good in the hand. It might not look so good after heavy use, but it'll still perform.
And has the fastest opening system available.

I'm a total Emerson geek, so i'm biased.. ;)

And btw, may i suggest that you look into any of the SOCFK models? great knives!

Let us hear what you choose :)

Swedish girls eh? Hmmmm. Uh, where am I? Oh yeah, knives.
Are Emerson knives simple in design and execution compared to some others on the market these days. The answer is yes. Are Emerson knives every bit as sophisticated and more in some cases. Again the answer is yes. Simple and effective. Just the way I like it!
Emerson's tactical knife ethic has always been Spartan both in design and execution. This is because Ernie's influences include his tireless persuit of warrior skills coupled with the direct input from the NAVSPECWAR community. He keeps it simple but makes it work... with incredible results.
The Emerson knives possess a certain quality that is simply not available on other knives. I am talking about the Wave feature. Take it from me when I say its an amazing feature. This endorsement comes from someone who was very skeptical for quite some time, even after getting a waved knife. I can safely say that this feature alone makes an Emerson knife worth buying.
Aside from the Wave, the Emerson line is generally a very straight forward, well thought out and well executed knife. Ernie keeps it simple when designing knives but he doesn't miss the subtleties that make a great knife. Subtleties such as ergonomics and blade geometry.
There are a number of manufactures that have incorporated more complex or refined features in recent years and in some cases these features have merit. Despite this fact Emerson knives are every bit as valid if not more.
