I am currently a Benchmade fan, it's all I carry. I have tried several other companies, (Microtech, Cold Steel, etc.) and have yet to find something that compares. I have never owned a Spydie, don't know why, they just haven't enticed me to pick one up. I have my first and second ones coming in the mail within a week from now and I'm wondering how well I will like them. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I use to be a Benchmade nut also. I my self have owned many BM, Emersons, Boker, Gerbers, Mircotechs. But it just seems I keep going back to my Endura Clipit. I had a fully serrated version from my first few years in the military. I lost that one and I searched for other knives. Then I saw that the Endura came with a 50/50 blade and just had to have it so I bought it. Does everything I ask it to do. It is the knife I go out to the field with. It is the knife I have strapped to me when I jump out from a C-17 at 800 ft to the drop zone and it will be the knife that will be strapped to me if ever called into combat. However I did find a replacement for it thats on the way.....a Spyderco Military.

I'll chime in on this one, Tique

Spyderco's are fantastic knives, and the quality is outstanding.
If I didn't like Microtech's so much, I would still have most of mine, but someone, who shall remain nameless, made me a couple of deals I just couldnt' pass up.

Not to worry though, the Endura was always my favorite anyway, with the Wegner a very close second.

Overall, I just don't think the Spyderco can be beat, as far as cost/quality goes.

If only Sal would listen to my expert advice and start producing some left handed Wegners, all would be right with the world

I have a Wegner and a Military coming, I'm just wondering how well they will perform compared to my beloved AFCK. I still don't know how you can beat that knife. I am, however still searching for a secondary carry, as my balisong is illegal on campus, and I just can't seem to find anything else that is suiting. I've been through all the possible Microtechs and even my beloved Benchmades and can't find anything, so I will give Spydies a shot. I also like the fact that they offer the only full serrated hawk bill blade I've found so far(note that I haven't really looked much though) and I'm intending on getting one of those, if I like my Spydies that are coming, for a good camping/utility blade for cutting ropes and the like, although I'm open to suggestions on a good full serrated blade that will perform that task without being hawkbill shaped.

In a word... Quality control. I have four BM knives, 2 were good, 1 was bad and 1 had a poor edge.

I have more than twice that number of Spyderco products. Apart from the Military which needed a little work on the edge to get is jusssst right, all my Spydies have been 110% perfect. BM when they are on the ball make a great product, they do let the ball drop quite often however.

Both BM and Spyderco have great after sales care. I would recommend both in an instant. The Spyderco Range seems better value to my mind. Sal how about a Military in M2 Tool steel? Mmmmmmmm...tasty! Or what about a mini Military in BG-42 and M2? Mmmmmm VERY TASTY!

I think that in the course of my short lifetime that I've owned upwards of 30 or so benchmades and I currently have about 20 sitting in my room on my shelf and in my knife roll, I have yet to recieve one of the "bad" ones that I keep hearing about. The closest I came is that one of my AFCK's had a bit of slippage on the liner lock that I didn't like, but I shipped it to BM and it was taken care of quickly for me. I also love the M2 steel, that's what's in my AFCK that is in my pocket every day, and it's the standard to which I compare everything else.

Well, if the Wegner and Military can't convert you, then you ain't never comin' round!

The Military is the knife that the AFCK tries to be, and the Wegner? The Wegner is, IMHO, the best general carry folding knife you can buy.

I guess I'm one of those who will "never come around".

I also love Benchmades, but I now own:
Progrip (large) daily carry
Bob Lum Tanto.
Large Rescue
and 4 Jot Singh Kalsas.

I plan on getting the Gunting or maybe the Starmate also.
am I a Spyderhead? NO. Do I appreciate the quality of a good knife. of course.

Do I like the Wegner? NO......
But Spydercos are definatly worth checking out. I know you will find at least one you will love.

I too have just recently turned to Spyderco... I have many Benchmades and all are great knives, but I haven't been too thrilled with all the horror stories I have heard, nor have I been happpy with few I have handled at the local knife shows... I am beyond excited about Spyderco's Gunting and the direction that the Martial Blade Craft line will be taking... Benchmade is a very good company but I feel Spyderco is a step above them when it comes to quality control...

Well to answer one of the better post questions, I have to say simply that Spyderco started it all.Although the AFCK is a very good knife the idea in its creation came from Spyderco,if I read a recent post correctly. In my eyes I have yet to see any other company do much except follow suit. There are exception, such as certain companies design big blades for nothing more than combat, and hacking your way through the jungle.
I have a decent collection of Spydies going and I can say proudly that they are my favorite possesion.
It all comes down to your personal preferences.I would put my military up against anything, and have.I assure you ,you will never be dissapointed. The steel, blade design and prices can't be beat.
I never saw a reason to go any further than the inovators of this design. The wegner is a great knife and probably one of the best outdoor knives around, enjoy it for everything it is.And from my own personal perspective,If you ever put a G-10 civilian in your hand you will have to agree that it's one of the coolest d#mn knives ever created...

Someday my friends ,I'll own them all

tique ~ You made a good selection. The Military and Wegner are both very popular models from the Spyderco stable.
I chose this particular brand because the blades are sharp and easy to maintain. They hardly give me any problems and the guys at Golden are highly committed to preserving the quality of the cutting tools that they ship out.

Tique,

My first one hand opener was a Delica, but I switched to a BM AFCK for a defensive blade. Then I switched to an Emerson. Now that the Gunting and the MBC line up is here, I think all my other folders are going to see a lot of shelf time.

Spyderco quality is great and they have something to offer everyone. Add to that a boss like Sal that goes right to the ELU to get the 411, and you have exciting developments on a regular basis. He is a man that understands the meaning of "Leading from the front".

They were the pioneers of what we consider the common pocket knife today, but they are not satisfied unless they are pushing the limits. I like that.
