Why buy Trident 2.0?

I handled this knife in a local shop today. I really like it the looks and feel of it but I don't want to spend $120 on something that might end up sitting on a shelf. Can someone give me a few good reasons to buy this? I enjoy camping and hiking but I am wondering if this is more of a stabbing, fighting knife instead of a wilderness, bushcraft, general purpose blade.

Alright, let me put this another way: What do you all use your 6 ½" Bowie knives for? Any examples or pics?

It will work for most any task, however it is a tacti-cool oriented design with the baggage that type of knife carries with it. Weather or not it sits on a shelf is up to you, and it sounds to me like it will.

My general use fixed blade is the SOG Seal Pup Elite (plain edge). I don't own a Trident but I like that general shape a lot and have a number of the older SOGs with that blade shape. As far as the Trident goes, what you will use it for is up to you, but larger knifes are used for harder tougher tasks in general. For the most part, I primarily use folders for most tasks but will carry a fixed blade in the field for tasks that require a longer blade or where the use is rougher. I would not choose this knife for a hunting knife but it would be a great general carry blade on the trail as long as the weight is not too much.

I'm a folder guy and a person who generally prefers smaller knives (but hand filling). So most of my larger fixed blades stay on the shelf for the most part. Just being honest. But there is something infectous about handling a big fixed blade. I'd like to get the Super Bowie and will probably buy the new NW Ranger that is coming out without the serrations.

Zombies.. I hadn't thought of that!
But seriously, I ended up buying it last night...it was just calling out to me and I couldn't resist! This is my first large fixed blade and it is gorgeous. I really like the blade shape and how the handle fills the hand. Just from the little I have used it these past 24 hours, it seems like it will indeed be a nice general utility blade. It is a clear and cold day here in Michigan (just beautiful). I have already been hiking with the Trident this morning and now I am going out back to practice some bushcraft with it. I am going to build myself a fire, cook some fish, and do some stargazing. Thanks to everyone for the advice, I'll let you know more about its performance tomorrow.

Well, the Trident is indeed a good general utility blade. I was able to baton it through 3-inch diameter logs to get kindling to make a nice fire. If the logs were any larger in diameter I risked batoning to close to the tip. I then used the Trident to carve a simple wooden spoon, and then cut up a few apples. I feed my dogs a diet of raw chicken wings so I used the knife to cut them up (for the smaller dog). It easily went through the bones and joints. After using the knife all weekend I believe this was a good buy and it should get plenty of use. Edge retention is excellent and the micarta handle is very comfortable.

I like that knife, I was going to buy it a couple of months ago, but picked something else up instead in the end. That's a nice knife though.
