Why Can't I Get Into Spyderco Knives?

I've handled several Spyderco knives, including the Delica, Endura, Wegner Jr., Shabaria, Harpy, and Police (still waiting to get my hands on a Civillian), and none of them feel right in my hand. They have all felt awkward or uncomfortable. I have felt much more comfortable with BM and CRKT knives, but I'm not into brand loyalty or anything like that. I've read so many great things here on the forums about Spyderco knives that I would like to try one out, but I haven't yet held a Spyderco that feels right to me. So why can't I get into Spydercos? Am I just weird or what?

You must be weird!

If the Wegner Jr. wasn't comfy, you're probably a mutant with extra digits or something.

May I suggest a Starmate, Calypso or Military as some different "form factors" from the knives you've already tried?

Have you tried leaving a Spydie in it's box with just the blade extended? HEAVEN!!!

I've had more paper cuts than cuts from knives, but the knives are QUICKLY gaining!

Hands are weird. I find the endura and delica to fit my hands like a glove. The native fits my hands so badly that I couldn't even consider buying it, even though I want one! The Wegners don't fit my hands all that well, either. Calypso Jr. & large Calypso? Fit my hand great. The much-vaunted Military? Hate the way it feels in my hand.

My all-time favorite (So far !) is the Bob Lum model. I really like how it feels as opposed to the Military. It balances nicely for me. It just settles nicely in the palm, rather than feeling like it wants fall out of my hand.

If you're used to something else, a perfectly good handle can still feel a bit weird. Try a full-sized Calypso. If that doesn't feel good in your hand, perhaps you can still make a decent living working as a Woody Allen impersonator. (As in: yes, there most certainly is something wrong with you.)
