Why can't I swap the @#&%$*@ clip on my CQC-7!!

I am finally starting to wise up. I am posting this once and for all so that the fog may forever be lifted!!

The reason that the clip on the CQC-7 does not fit so well on the wrong end of the knife.

The knife was designed from the beginning to be carried in a tip up manner. When the design was liscensed to Benchmade, they wanted to change the clip location. (as well as some other things that we will not go into here). This was done for two reasons, one really but they kind of diverge.

Reason #1;

Liability. Plain and simple, Benchmade was worried about tip up carry because of the potential liability with opening up in the pocket of the user.

Reason #2;

This is the way that all the other Benchmades are set up (see reason #1). They did not want to break with tradition so to speak.

Well, once the liscensing agreement was up and the Emersons had decided to open up their own production facility, it was decided that the CQC-7 would be made more true to the original design. This meant (among other things) that the clip should be located in it's proper position, opposite the end of the pivot.

Giving the matter further consideration, it was decided that the pivot end would be tapped, mostly as a courtesy to the previous Benchmade owners (myself included) who were accustomed to the tip down carry.

(As a side note, I had immedeately wondered why the clip on my new and long awaited for Benchmade seemed to be on the wrong end.)

There was a slight (and known) problem with tapping the pivot end. There was only so much room on the knife left and the pivot bolts used are significantly larger than the BM variety. This leaves the clip, when switched, riding high off of the scale. It also has led to much conjecture and speculation.

The simple fix to the problem is this. Remove the clip and, with your fingers, put a bit more bend in to it. It is just that easy, no dremeling required though I have seen some very elaborate resolutions to this situation.

I hope this helps everyone out a bit. If i have left anything out, just ask and your questions shall be answered.

Take care,
Derek
