Why can't I use the search feature here?

I assume it is because of number of posts... would really rather use the search function here than Google's site search feature.
 
If you look at the announcements above, it says that the search function is down for non-paying members.
 
Is is the TOP of EVERY page that the search is down for non-paying members!!

The search function takes up beaucoup resources. Unrestrained searches slow the response time for everyone. Spark felt it was fairest if he limited searches to paying members. That keeps the drain on resources to a level that does not impact everyone.

$10 a year is a pretty fair price.

No, you wouldn't. The Search feature here is okay, and definitely can do its job. But it's nowhere near as fast and flexible as Google. The only thing you can do with the BFC search feature that I haven't yet been able to do with Google is search for all posts by a certain member after a certain date. I'm sure there's a way, but haven't quite put it together yet.
 
Just tried a quick side-by-side search using both search engines.

bladeforums search yields more hits.
