Full disclosure I have been a gold member in the past and did not re up my support this January. It seems to me every time there is a bit of controversy the mods end up locking the thread. We have this little bru ha ha going on with BM as soon as the thread gets going its locked on a knife forum? I thought that was what we were here for discussion and able to hear both sides? guess not. It seems the mods spend more time protecting the sponsors than letting a good thoughtful discussion play out. Benchmade to their credit has not shutdown the discussion on their forum.
I need to find a place that supports the first amendment and not a place that protects the sponsors.

Where is the political forum?

I use my phone. I don’t see it anywhere.

You have to be a paying member to access it.

I hate to criticize the mods because they do an amazing job overall, plus it only takes one mod to close it but,

This is a valid criticism this time imho.

It was becoming a divisive political mudslinging thread though. Now if only we could all get behind hating Benchmade in a way that unites us, that could be a beautiful thing like the MCstriderBurger thread lol.

Just remember: in the PA ( the "political forum" ) we have very definite rules as well. We welcome all discussion within those rules.
The rules are to keep discussion within reasonable bounds and civil but do not censor for being left, right or critical of sponsors if the criticism is relevant.
Vulgarity, provocation and bad language don't fly there either, although our view of what is offensive may differ from other forums here, but probably not by much.
If you can't find the PA you probably won't fare very well there, just sayin' ;)

Good luck with that. Thoughtful discussion does happen here about knives. Wine & Cheese and Political forums are designed for such. There is no 2nd Amendment here. It's a private forum.

We shouldn’t refer to that place here, but I agree. The OP is very welcome there, but no politics.

Politics and religion can hardly be discussed anymore without someone getting their panties in a wad. Then there are some who cant discuss anything in a civil tone because their vocabulary is so limited. Have a good day all.

To the OP, political discussions belong in the political area, not the general knife forums. That's why the threads were closed. The whole BM debacle is political at the roots of the matter, hence there's one open in the appropriate section.

The 1st is to protect you from government censorship, nothing more. The threads in question were mostly temper tantrums, not discussion. I'd bet if only the adults spoke in those threads, they'd still be open. Don't blame the mods for other people acting like children. You can speak out against BM's actions without making a fool of yourself, but some don't handle emotions well I guess. I see plenty of negative talk about BM on this forum that's allowed to stay.

Almost all the comments here make good points.

Unfortunately true. This is why we have a separate forum for Political and it is closely moderated by Codger, Yours Truly and the occasional SuperMod with a great deal of help from the estrablished old timers who frequent the place. it needs it to stay cool. Those that don't abide walk the plank so it's no free-for-all.

We do try to give as much freedom of speech as possible in terms of the content of the opinion but the reality is that this definitely is a private forum privately owned whose rules we all follow if we want to be here, but I must say the owners are very, very good at keeping it fairly open, or I would not be a Mod here. But if you want it to last you have to act responsibly, and that's the key here, as ii should be in the real world and ain't
OK Shut the F*** up. My bad I didn't realize we had a constitutional Scholar in the house.
This is the only remark that i find offensive, and not as much for the F bomb, which is out of bounds, but because of the sarcastic demeaning remark about "consitututional Scholar". Actually, we do have a few scholars here and you'll find that even the laymen in the PA know their Constitutional law surprisingly well and we debate it all the time. If that is a joke or offside to someone, best to stay the heck out of the PA. You don't have to be a scholar or even interested in the Constitution to participate, but to curse the debate and the scholarship is closed minded and inimical to what the PA and discussion are all about.

I looked briefly at the original comments that caused alarm and I can say the topic, in general terms, about companies taking political and partsian positions is probably quite a good one, but not if it's an F bomb screed and scoffs at constitutional law and its role in the same. That sounds like Whine & Cheez if anything.

PS Apologies for posting after closing: I was two finger typing while it was being closed.

Also just for clarity manufactures do not pay to have a forum here. The only requirement is that they have their own active moderators.
