I heard they didn't want their name on anything made in china any longer. Some of the other lines such as their h & k line may be made in china, but it doesn't say Benchmade on it. Make sense?
Doesn't make much sense in my opinion. It's a marketing thing. Since then, the HK and HD line had just exploded.
They did what they were supposed to, so they sold better. I guess they just want people paying more for their knives that do more than enough.Actually, one reason I've heard of is that the Red Class sold better than all of their other ones.
Funny, I know.
Things made in other countries can be good quality as long as there is good quality control. I know Benchmade has some great knives, but that seemed like an arrogant American move as if Benchmade loved the Confederacy (even though the Confederates hated Blacks, not Asians). In my opinion, China/Taiwan always get a bad reputation. They didn't want anything they made coming from China and failing. Benchmade wanted their name to be the best of the best. They wanted to compete with Kershaw/Spyderco/whoever else.
Its sad that prejudice and patriotism has to override factory quality ( Spyderco's Taichung knives), but sometimes that's the way it is.

It was just an exaggerated example, but it seems similar to what made them remove their red class.Hence the mention of Spyderco's Taichung knives, the best, regardless of origin. Better than Golden's knives. Hands down. I kinda agree with you, but just not to that extreme.
What was the average price of red class knives? I don't even remember.Unless we have someone in the know from Benchmade wade into the fray, all we have is speculation.
I would say that it is more profitable to sell less units of a higher profit product than more units of a product with a tight profit margin.

Yeah, I assume they were about 30-60$?I remember picking up a Vex for about $40. Excellent knife and my first BM; I think I ended up giving it to a friend in need.
