Why did Buck drop BG-42 for S30V??

I noted that someone said they just got a new custom 110 in BG-42. I thought S30V was currently the only option in higher grade steel.

Any particular reason why Buck stopped offering BG-42? Or can you get an order placed for it with a phone call to the custom shop? I certainly like S30V but BG-42 seem to have a very strong following and thought I'd give it a try if I can get my hands on a BG-42 110.

BG-42 is supposed to be available for custom 110s. You just need to give them a call as it does not show on the website.

I was going to do the "build your knife" on Buck's web site, but now I think I'll give a call and see just what are the real blade options for the 110 in their Custom Shop. After over 40 years of production and limited runs, I suspect they have a lot of interesting blades tucked away just waiting to get fitted to a fine custom 110.

The Damascus interest me as well.

BG42 is currently much more expensive than S30V because of the military using it,
