Why did Buck stop making red and yellow 300's?

Why did Buck stop making the red and yellow scales on the 300 series? While I like the basic black, it was nice having other choices. If you drop a black scaled version out in the field, it is hard to find. A red or yellow one is much easier to locate. Plus, the red down right looks cool.

If you are talking about the yellow and red saw-cut knives, the question might be why did they make them, instead of why did they stop making them. The yellow saw-cut versions were special orders for SMKW in the late 80s to mid-90s. My guess is that the red versions were always thought of as a limited run to complement the yellow versions. In other words, neither version was ever thought of as being an ongoing product.

That said, I'm with you Doc T, I like them.

Yeah, they look good, both colors. I know a certain company to be un-named uses yellow handles, but the Buck yellow were much better and more durable. I like the saw cut look, too. I hope Buck will bring out a new run of those that we can actually buy.

I am not sure, so I am silent. They did (Delrin, Valox ) 300s in a narrow time period in sawcut yellow, sawcut red, green for Boone and Crockett Club and a few years later in smooth yellow for a year or so and if you were lucky to get one, a hundred or so in smooth black, as a test. Dymondwood is the new "jigged" bone .

Since I was asked to comment.......you might get s30v in a custom shop offer but anything else will take folks (or bigshots) in high places to offer them and take any sales lumps that occur. The sellers are the clip folders. Sorry to tell you this but us knife folks are not the majority of knife buyers. Your granddad and uncles back when and they had one or two knives and took care of them for years. In this big mart world its fast food, all metal, clip in your pocket models that sell. Its got to be new and sexy, also easy to make. If I ever see a real random jigged bone stockman come out of Idaho I may keel over....I am just one knife collector, I do own one single share of Walmart, think that gives me any pull? Or just $66 dollars.

Green saw cut Delrin or Valox? I have never seen one. That is something else to look for, one day. But, if they brought back the yellow I'd be happy (for now).

As far as S30V goes, it was developed specifically for knives. It is fast becoming the new normal on high quality knives. But, CTS-XHP would be pretty good (think stainless D2, but better). I have some experience with both steels and I like them, a lot. They are not hard to sharpen, either, but they hold an edge for a very long time. 300 series knives in these steels with a different color of scale (Valox or Delrin to keep the cost down) would be mighty nice. I'll take a 302, please.

I forgot they made a pearl (plastic) scale 303 for two years (02 and 03). Oh, other scales from other materials have been made, but we were talking "plastic" scales. Here you go Doc. Design wise I think the rivet heads are too big..... 300

Addition: Dang it, the more I look at them the more they look like green wood laminate scales. Will leave them up anyway.

PS I am stunned, Photobucket worked like a charm.
