Why did CS stop making its 12 inch bowie machete?

Some of Cold Steel's machete models were produced in China, and others in South Africa. Their China factory burned down, and took with it a few models like the seax and bowie machete.

Their 420HC is actually pretty sweet stuff. Performs better than Cold Steel's 1055 in my opinion. I prefer carbon steels as a whole when it comes to choppers, but Condor does good stainless work.

For 43 dollars you can buy a Kabar Heavy Bowie in 1095....
And no, Twin, see my above post. That is THE reason why.

Probably because lack of sales, thanks to Condor & Ontario producing quality stuff in thier machete lines.

Yeah--the Spear Point, Bowie, Kopis, and Barong machetes were all produced at the same factory in China, and a fire destroyed both the factory and all the tooling with it. Rather than replace the huge lost investment they decided to start fresh and stick with Lasher for their machete production. They have wider distribution than Condor and a higher profile than Ontario, plus the quality isn't too shabby other than the edge typically being mangled and absent, so their machetes sell quite well. Their 2HKM and Gladius machetes come with a (rather obtuse) convex edge on them from the factory now, and their 2012 models are slated to as well. Looks like they're working on improvements. :)
