Why did I buy 7 other Spyderco's before a Sage 3

Just received my Sage 3 today. All I can say is wow.
After swinging between my Chaparral and Sage 1 for work EDC as they are discreet with the dark wire deep carry clip. And my Manix 2 S110V for weekend EDC I plunged in and ordered a Sage 3.

Initially I just wanted to try a different lock and I like my Sage 1/Manix 2 so much, figured this knife might be a nice blend = good move. I was put off to start with as I didn't like the wider profile with the bolt lock though. But after getting it in hand wow, it's awesome. Buttery smooth straight from the box. The bolt lock is like a feather compared to the CBBL of the Manix 2, it's so smooth, have I mentioned that it's smooth 😁. I had no idea the milled liners were set into the scales like a PM2, which makes it a slimmer profile in pocket - Nice. Slightly longer cutting edge over the Sage 1 is also a bonus. I have a medium sized hand and find the PM2 handle large for the blade length you get, but the Sage series is just "that" sweet size for my hand.

All in all I'm sold on this folder now for work EDC and possibly weekends too on occasion. This is an illness though as I'm already googling reviews on the Gayle Bradley 2......

Oh and the Sage 5, gotta get one of those too.....

I really like the Sage 3 too! So smooth to open and close, great materials, really affordable on the secondary market... what's not to like?

I've never been a fan of these type locks. After carrying around a GB1 for a while I realized a fatter/slimmer profile really isn't much of a factor in deciding if I want a knife or not.

I really do love the leaf shape blade on the Sage series so, like you, I will be getting a 5 as soon as I can.

Hope you get some mileage out of your 3. Post an update after the first week or so and let us know how your carry is going. Congrats.

Leaf shape does look slick but I just can't seem to enjoy its usage--- to me it is an awkward blade to do anything with.
Maybe I'm just becoming an old fart.

Everyone has their own preference.
To be honest, some people's hands/fingers/style of use work better with certain blade shapes than others.

Good thing Spyderco produces a bunch of knives with a bunch of different blade shapes! :)

I, being an older fella myself, completely understand your cynicism. I still look for traditional attributes in just about every knife I buy. But I was intrigued by the Sage 1 due to the CF. After I got it and used it a bit I found out that it is a damn good slicer. Its one of my Every workday carry and handles my daily fruit and veggies quite well. I like it a lot.

I love my sage series knives. I currently have the sage 2 and sage 3. I will be picking up a sage 1 in the next week or so. They are buttery smooth and if nothing else they have a cool collectibility about them. The only issue is that I absolutely can't stand the look of the sage 4 and I'm definitely not a fan of a lock back. I'm more of a collector than a user. My knives get to open mail and get flicked while watching tv. To me a knife is more a piece of man jewelry that I match up with my outfit everyday along with a light. That said I know the lock back is a great hard use locking system, but I just can't get excited about it because it's the least fun type of lock to play with. I will end up getting it at some point just to keep the collection going but I'm just not as excited about the 4 as I am about the others in the series.
