Why did I wait? Finally picked up a BM710

I was on the fence for a few years about picking up the 710. I had purchased a couple BM's in the past and had gotten unlucky with the QC (Rukus blade hit the spacers and dented the edge, some other model had poorly aligned handle slabs) and the pictures for the 710 never convinced me of ergonomics. I also heard about bad QC on the 710 and decided to avoid it.

Well, today I finally got one and I must say it is unlike any other knife I have handled. It is not the sharpest or smoothest or biggest or most ergonomic knife I have had. In fact,I dont think it is superlative in any way except one: that glorious blade/handle ratio.

This knife feels like a little sword and it makes me giddy like a school girl. :D

It came with an orange millie to replace a foliage green d2 millie I sold a year or two ago. The millie is as I remember--light, strong, and ergonomic. Rather than give a comparison to the 710, I will say they are both good, just different. ;) If you cant decide between the pair but can afford to buy both, do so.

I will take pictures of my collection when I get my speedform (november), so dont ask :p

EDIT: Dont want to give the wrong impression--the 710 came sharp and is ergonomic and does not display any QC issues.

I just got my first 710 in today too! Its great and I love it, Im going to carry it tomarrow.
Not looking forward to sharpening it though cause of the blade shape but it came sharp enough to last a little while.

Good choice finally picking one up. It's my favorite folder or all time, and an overall amazing knife.

Congrats. It really is a classic. McH & W really got that one right the first time.

Great Knife for sure. You made me pull out my BM710 for a little EDC duty. I've been ignoring her for a bit. Thanks for the reminder.

Congrats guys! The 710 is sweet and so is the Military. They don't get the nod in threads asking for help on what knife a member should buy, more than any others for nothing.

The only folder I like more in that blade size (around 4") is my Hinderer XM-24.

Enjoy 'em and don't sweat the sharpening. I've sharpened the BM 710 on a SharpMaker and on DMT difalods. The recurve is fairly subtle and not bad at all to put a keen edge on. :)

I agree re: the 710 recurve & SharpMaker. The rods are small enough that you can get good results using the full flats, not just the points.

There used to be a lot of pointless arguments about whether the Military was "better" than the 710 or vice versa. I don't recall seeing those for a long time, and it's just as well, since there really is no objective answer. Both are superior knives. About all they have in common is their ~4" blade length. Everyone should own at least one of each!

I love the design of the 710! My only beef with it is that it should have been built heavier. Thicker frames and blade with a weight around 6.5 ounces would have been extra sweet. But of course, I want every knife to be built this way. It's an OCD problem.:D

I'm certain you've been around long enough to know they make a left hand model right? :)

Yes, and that's actually my point. :) I find the RH Millie easier to use in my left hand than the LH Millie.
