Why did they stop making the BK-10?

I have and love a BK-7. Of all the Beckers I see folks with, it's the BK-10 I want next...but they don't make it anymore apparently.

I also saw some real for sure kukris (or KLOs anyway) in the picture thread? Not the machax...real kukri shaped blades. What ever happened to them?

Just curious.
 
I am sure they stopped making it because I want one. :)

I wonder this too. Not the LE version, but the regular production.
 
From my understanding, Ka-bar never has made the 10. When Cam went under the production on them was stopped. However Ka-bar, when purchasing the Becker line from Cam, happened upon a limited quality of blanks and decided to run them as the 10LE. Which included the factory micarta and grivory and all the "bells and whistles."

You can still find them once in a while on the exchange, and possibly some other unnamed sources if your google-fu is strong enough.


As for the Khuk, that is the RBK. It was a collaboration between Becker and Reinhardt. It's just smexy!

Yeah, from what I've gleaned here Chameleonbear is correct.

We're enthusiasts, but we have to face the fact that with KaBar it's a business and they are in it to make a profit (a good thing -- unless you think Liberal). They are only going to invest in tooling and design work on something that has a decent chance of being a hit in the marketplace. Like C-bear said, the LE's came from left over Camillus blanks that KaBar reworked and sold at, shall I say, a fairly heady price, compared to street prices for a -7 or -2, even when you consider the micarta and toys. The LE's sold out, but it took a LONG time. I'm sure KaBar "noticed" this and is in no rush to sacrifice production time on something that might be a slow seller.

A long time to sell they did, but how big was the ad campaign for the 10LEs? I can't say I'd seen any mention of them anywhere but here, and I don't think there was a website page for them.
 
If by ''they'' you mean Kabar, they never made them.

The real question is how come ''they'' don't START making them. Higher price points on the LE10 made sales a lil slower...I'm sure a regular run 10 at ''normal'' prices would sell accordingly.
 
I wish they brought them back in, the 10 and 9 are fecking sexy and my favourite in terms of looks, no customization needed :) (You dont hear that very often from me). Might be wrong but the high price point may be one reason they didnt fly off the shelves in a week. I think it was $185 for regular people and $130 for beckerheads? With a price tag like that your venturing into "custom" knife territory there.
 
I have a bk10LE,,, still sitting in the box,,, wanted to have two so I could beat on one and keep one in mint,,, but didn't have the funds,,, there are a few articles here on how to convert a bk7 to a 10, and I am thinking on doing that...
 
Because the hotness was just too much to handle. Law of conservation of Becker hotness, and all. I would love the RBK to come back, in something nifty like 5160 or S35VN or even just good ole 1095CV.
 
I pine for a BK-10 but not enough to pay a 'limited run collector's' price tag for it, I have other regular production Beckers that fill it's slot well enough. If the BK-10 should happen to come back to production however I will definitely be among the first to pick one up.

Done it, pretty easy...I didnt grind the knife all the way back to 5" or whatever the original blade was but it makes a nice (roughly) 6" knife now. How many people have have converted 7 to 10s? I've only seen one thread on it.

I asked this very same question, what seemed like a lifetime ago (really only a year or so). I was fortunate enough to be here at the right time. I wanted one badly as well. The BK10 is the reason i became a beckerhead. I was not disappointed. Great blade.

I also agree that they should bring them back. I think they would sell a ton of them. I say wait & save your money & wait & save & buy one from the exchange. It really is a great blade. They will probably never bring them back.
 
We might have to wait a while. Ka-bar has so much business already, it sounds like, that they're still trying to catch up before they grow it again. I'd like to see the RBK first before the 10 comes back though. The 2 does kinda fill the same role.
