Why do Buck Leather sheaths smell

Why do they smell so bad. Is it from the dye they use? I have a few other leather sheaths from CFK and they smell just like old fashion leather.. and I love that smell.

The worst smelling sheath I ever had came from eBay. Clearly not from a smoke free home. I always thought it funny people would put "from a smoke free home" in their ads. Never understood until I got this one. It has spent the last few years in a ziplock full of baking soda. Last I checked it still stunk.

We not really stink smell they just smell like Dye or something toxic..

I haven't noticed any odor from new Buck sheaths, but I have significantly impaired sense of smell (which is a net benefit when I'm around something stinky!).

However, the worst smelling sheaths I ever got were some aftermarket import sheaths for folding hunter size knives from a large knife store we all know. I swear they smell just like stale urine. I could not use them at all.

An ancient and traditional method.... urine can be used fot tanning leather....

K Knives Survival I notice it too. I think it is the chemicals from the leather tanning process.

Yes indeed, with a kind of faux basket-weave finish…

Those oily waxy stinky sheaths from Pakistan are terrible.
