im a balisong guy, so i dont know really anything about hinderer knives, the only thing i do know is that they cost damn new a grand for seemingly a regular knife.
are they made out of unobtainium or something? what am i missing?

The price is set by what people are willing to pay. There are plenty of other folders out there that are just as nice for alot less. I buy those. I have seen XM18's with an anodized framelock and upgraded standoffs going for $2,800.00, I wonder if they sell. If Hinderers ever get to the $600.00 range I would consider getting one or two. There popularity prices them over what I think there worth, to bad as I would like to have a couple of them. There are really nice.

Ive seen the Rick Hinderer customs sell for over 2k, but not production versions. Retails usually have the new versions priced around $800.00 and they sell basically the same day they are posted. I see a lot of used, but in good shape xm-18s listed on forums for under $600.00, which I would pay for one. They are very high quality, and any concerns or problems can usually be directed right to the top people there, who will take care of the knife for you. They are not knives you have to worry about using.

Rick Hinderer Knives has no control over secondary market prices. As this is their forum we don't discuss secondary market prices. I will say that the market demands for a popular knife is what drives prices.
