Why do I still want one? (Manix 2)

So I've owned an s45vn pm2, then more recently got a spy27 native 5, and am now wanting an S30V g10 manix or even a newer lightweight manix with the removable scale screws but I don't know why. Comparing it to my pm2 I prefer the blade shape of the pm2, pm2 has a longer blade with more cutting surface, on paper the manix' steel is inferior to the s45vn, the pm2 is slimmer in pocket, pm2 is a smidge lighter in weight with the milled inset liners, and the compression lock is supposedly smoother in operation. So by my own rationale I shouldn't need a manix 2 but yet I still want one! Is it because for the price it seems like a really good value in the knife world? All that extra jimping just looks like it permanently wants to stick to my hand forever? Or is this what it means to "slip down the spydie hole?"

Manix 2 is a second love for me as well. Have lot's of PM2, preferred it in the beginning for the same reasons that you mention, but they all stay packed away now; my Manix 2s get used all the time .... I guess it's the more comfortable leaf blade shape (reminds me when I was using SAK for many years), the action is easier to adjust and remain perfect, and - in hard use and unlike the PM2 - the Manix 2 doesn't pinch the web between thumb and index finger.

Sounds like you forgot to read the fine print on your first Spyderco box. You missed the part where they tell you the resin used in their G-10 is actually crack cocaine.

Why you want something else is your subconscious trying to tell you that the compression lock isn't as great as it's made out to be, there has to be something better.

As far as all that jimping on the Manix 2 goes, I ground all that off on mine. That handle is one giant hotspot to me. I'll stick with the lightweight version, at least I don't have to wear gloves to protect me from my tool that way.

I've done that one some of them as well, and it is much more comfortable bare handed.

Actually at first it was quite a different feel than ZT/ Kershaw G10 I've felt on other knives and didn't quite like how the texture almost felt like linen or something but over time have grown to appreciate how it's actually a really nice level of grippy but never harsh on hands or pockets.

I've also really grown to accept FRN after experiencing the lightweight native 5, so much that I think I would be ok with one of the new LW manix that isn't pinned but I do prefer the spoon clip over the wire clip

Quit beating yourself up and be like Nike, just do it.
The manis is one of those knives you’ll never regret buying. No matter what it says on pape, it’s the feel in the hand and smile on your face that makes the difference.

I am thinking of trying a black dlc manix lightweight, but I once had a griptilian with plastic scales and hated how the plastic jimping bumps around the back of the handle felt. Do the similar looking bumps in the choil area and rear grip of the knife of the manix feel like these?

Well I finally pulled the trigger and bought a black dlc manix 2 lightweight and my first impression upon opening it was holy crap, how can a knife this size be this light yet still so balanced and solid feeling?! Can't wait to put it to the test. Glad it has all removable hardware and the all black looks great. Also I was afraid the ergos wouldn't be good since I heard a lot of complaints but it fits great in my hand, and love the bidirectional texture. I guess I am not one to need g10.

So I have already put the removable screw cqi version through some use and have already had to disassemble it so good thing for no rivets haha. The lockup has been solid and action would close super smooth 95% of the time but then out of no where lose it's "drop shuttiness" and require a bit more force to open/close a few times like there was resistance somewhere but then would suddenly become buttery smooth again🤔. Took it apart and cleaned everything and lubed a little with some rem oil and boy does this thing have some right tolerances almost regretted doing it but now even more smooth than before. Couldn't see any signs of why it would hang up, the ball seemed smooth, the track where the ball rides seems machined well enough, cage wasn't deformed, blade is perfectly centered, and interestingly the two frn halves even kind of snap together so you know everything is all lined up, even to the point if all the screws were out you still have a working knife in a pinch since it all snaps together so well. But even after this the slight hang up seems to still happen at random, but never when opening with the cage pulled back. It has done this ever since I used it fresh out of the box. Has this happened to any of you guys? Perhaps the ball isn't perfectly symmetrical, so when opening without cage pulled back the tension allows the not symmetrical part to hang up? Or does it just need more time to break in? Maybe I'll just have to upgrade to a ceramic ball?
