Well, the reason I want to be in this forum is because I want to learn. I want to know the story (or history) about what I find, and other tools that I don't know about but I would love to find.
I am here to learn and you guys have not disappointed me! I try to follow your advices and so far I have receive a lot and learn quit a bit.. thanks a lot to all

Here some pics of the master mechanics that the aluminum wedge has come off and I will try to save and restor the old handle....of course all advices are welcome, thanks again

That handle is very dry but I would try to save it too. I would sand down the ledge where the bottom of the axe head rested. I try to make a smooth tight area there. That handle will soak up several coats of boiled linseed oil. You could also remove the grime by rubbing it with 0000 steel wool.

I want to be in this forum for a lot of the same reasons Frank01 stated above. The old rust bug bit me hard and now I'm hooked. Trying to do things the right/correct way in refinishing and restoring pieces of history, while adding a few touches here and there. Here is my most recent.

This forum is in many ways the archaeology of a by gone era in manufacturing of axes and hammers and pitchforks and any number of things we made on this side of the pond. If you find something at a flea market and want to know it's history this is one of your only resources. That's important because this info is fast disappearing.
