No really, why do they smell like they were slathered with lard.

I even went to an old box that was about ten years old and they had the same faint smell.

Did the seller do that so they could mail them, I remember readin' somewhere that ya can't mail Ohio Blue Tips by USPS.

Can any of you give me a rational reason why it would smell that way?

To taunt you on the trail and remind you that all you really, really want to do is eat bacon at the end of the trail.:confused::D

mmm...bacon....

Why do your pork rhinds smell like matches?

BTW, Fritos and Pork Rhinds make good fire starter...light them sometime and watch them burn like fatwood!!! We don't need no stink'n petro soak'd cott'n balls!

Seriously, get a small bag of Fritos, and light one...watch it burn for quite a while actually....it will start a fire!

I saw the thread title and thought, "there has to be a joke here somewhere." Then I opened it to discover there's lots of joke here! :)

Wish I could think of one of my own. :)

Pork rinds are fried pig fat and skin. Who here is surprised that they burn? Fritos are fried starches. Who here is surprised that they burn?

It is funny what food items your brain associates with certain smells. "Why do strike anywhere matches smell like prok rinds?" Because there is a chemical (combination of chemicals) in the matches that smells like the smell your brain associates with pork rinds.
