Emailed the author of the story to "vent" a little!!!!

It ain't just TV.

Remember Red Dawn?

In the "general store" scene, where they're scrambling to load up with all the stuff they're gonna need to hole up in the mountains, there's a "product placement" shot where one of the boys grabs a box plainly labeled "Buck Knife."

Hey, bein' famous ain't all bad.

I noticed that you dont see the Buck name on the blade and Buck is not mentioned in the story. My guess is that would be their defense. I sent the link to our legal guy though, just in case.
I remember Red Dawn and the scene in the hardware store. You'd think we had paid for that shot!

Joe, now that was a Great Scene in that Cool Movie... I really what to go to that old hardware store and buy some old bucks... Than I wake up... :( ... ...

I actually got a fairly nice response to my email, saying essentially that it was a stock graphic, and they were sorry if I felt it reflected badly on a company, and they would look into continuing to use it or not.

Don't know if that will happen, but at least they took the time to respond.

Realistically, they should have a graphic of a generic kitchen knife...from what I've read those are used to stab people more than anything else.

I email all of those as well, I tell then there is no need to even have a graphic of a knife. That they should have enough journalist expertise to be able to write a story without graphics.

You were probably nicer than I am ...lol

I noticed that whenever there is a story about a shooting, the graphic the news usually uses shows a Glock.

Our culture is all about graphics......not many read well anymore.

But......

They should use an efficient, dual purpose graphic.

Well, you know, the Egyptians started this whole "pictures instead of text" thing.

What they used (hieroglyphics) is now called "icons" and "graphics" in our culture.

Bet you never knew the Egyptians had computers.

I agree Joe,that movie shot was really cool looking,Buck is a brand everyone knows the name ,i find thats why so many people relate to any folding lockblade as Buck knife" .

There is a local canadian tire store that sells knives, they sell bucks, gerbers, swiss army,AND some knock offs.I went in one day not long ago,and there were buck 119 knock offs for $20,and i could here guys talking saying"look the buck knives are on sale".I told them the difference, then i spoke with the manager, who knows i'm a regular customer and spend a fair amount on knives and huntiong items there, and i told him to remove the knock off bucks or i would be all done spending my money in their store.

The knock offs are gone, and he informed me he would not be bringing in any more of them.

We had a local feed & seed that had Ruko brand copies of the Buck 119 here for a short time, but I would be surprised if they sold very many, as the stopped carrying them.

I think that Buck Knives are such an icon that most people in the media may refer to just about any knife as a Buck Knife. They just don't know any better.
