Why Do People Sell Their Sebenzas?

Was looking at the exchange and saw a lot of Sebenzas for sale.
This is suppose to be the knife. Everyone drewls over them.
It's like the standard to which other knives are held against.

That being said, I was surprised to see so many people willing to
part with them. So was just wondering the reasons why.

Note: All of the ones for sale sold really fast! :)

Some people like to buy knives to try them out. If they don't like them then they just sell them and move on to another knife. There is nothing wrong with that, if you don't like a knife or can't justify using or having it, there is no use in keeping it.

Why does anyone sell anything? I see all sorts of knives for sale everyday, it doesn't mean the knife isn't a great brand. Things change in people's lives. They need money, maybe want to buy something else, or pay a urgent bill. Who knows the circumstances surrounding the sale of possessions. They are undoubtedly many and varied.

Please note, I'm not trying to put down the Sebenza or anything
or saying it's wrong to sell your knife(s).

Same reason they sell their Benchmades, Spyderco's, Busse's, and Striders. Try it out, see what the hype is about, carry it and maybe even use it to determine if it's a good fit. If not, move on to the next knife that sparks your curiosity. If I had an endless cash supply I'd keep them all.

I admit I've thought about that too. Steel in, steel out I guess. What really puzzles me is the Busse fans. Many seemingly unload NIB Busses, so they can buy more Busses, which they unload, then buy more Busses...etc etc.

Not meant to be a knock on Busses, I just don't understand it.

Understood. I wondered the same thing the first few times I went into the FS forums. I think Sebenzas are an investment as much as a user item; if it doesn't quite suit you, it's one of those things that sells real quick.

thx - cpr

Sebenza's have a higher resale than other production folders. Even a used Sebenza will get a good price. All a new owner has to do is send it back to CRK and for a small fee they will refurbish it. Then it will look brand new.

Now you have me thinking of buying one :D Actually I think it does look
like a perfect EDC, but only thing is I cringe at the thought of loosing
such an expensive piece or damaging it.

You need to understand a lot of Busse owners will buy multiple copies of the same knife so they sell their extras usually at a small profit to finance their purchases. Also their is the factor that even the Biggest Busse fans don't like all patterns of Busse so if they buy one they don't like they sell it to try out another pattern.

I sell mine because the grass IS ALWAYS greener on the other side. I determine I would rather have 3 Spyderco than 1 Sebenza. Then after I've sold the Sebenza I realize I miss it so I sell a few Spyderco to get a Sebenza. The last one I sold because I had two of the small size. So I got rid of one to buy a nice bark river and a rat izula.

It's all about experiencing these knives to me.
That's why I sell Sebenzas. And for the record they are not that great of an investment. Lately if they aren't brand new you are going to lose $50 or more when they sell. I just sold a very near perfect small micarta double thumb lug for $305. Shipped. Brand new it would be over $400.

The Sebenza is just about the only knife I haven't sold. I've had a small classic for about 6 years now and I never even thought about selling it. And I really don't have a desire to buy another CRK. Satisfied with just one.

The only reason I've got rid of three sebenzas was to purchace two differant sebenzas(micarta inlay's), and traded one for a Busse.

Read post # 10 by Chiller2. It goes for many companies, in a way. There is no such thing as a "Sebenza" -- there are plain, working Sebenzas, there are inlaid Sebenzas, there are limited editions. Each is worth less or more as a user or as a collector or as available money on a quick sale.

People do buy multiples of a favorite knife, variants, high-end models, and these are the ones you tend to see for sale.

The knives I traded were all great. Only thing was they ended up not really being my thing as I became more specialized (and continue to be for that matter). Another big factor I think may be a part of it is that they may not be getting a lot of carry time. I've decided to start getting rid of knives I won't use/carry (case in point: I just traded off my Spyderco Karambit which was a "holy grail" for a while). The last thing I can think of is that something else has caught the eye of the seller/trader and they don't want to be shelling out more money for knives and/or are trying to keep to a knife budget, hence the "steel in steel out" you'll see occasionally.

Another thing, with me (and a lot of people I'm sure) it's a hobby. I buy Spydercos and a few other knives about constantly. Once in a great while I will trade or sell a few I've had for sometime. Then I buy or pay charges for other knives I've wanted. If I couldn't buy anything different and had to keep the same knives forever, I think I'd become bored and stop being so involved with the knife world.

Having had 4 different Sebs, I think it's several possible reasons & maybe even a combination of them.

For one, it just might not be what the person was really looking for. They may just need the $ & like you said, they sell quick. Also, like many nice knives, sometimes people get multiples of them or the different sizes/versions. Personally, I've had 4 different ones. I currently have a small classic micarta & a lg. classic CGG ("JD" logo on it), & don't see getting rid of them, either.

I'm guessing here, but I think the main reason is probably that the people need $, & quick. Sebs are so popular that there's quite a market for them, so if you need $ fast, that'd be a great way to go, if you can stand getting rid of one of your Sebs. Just my opinion, of course.

I rotate knives a lot. I carried a sebenza fora year. Nice knife I like it a lot, but right now I am carrying a G.E.C. trapper. Some day the sebenza might find its way back to my pocket. Not ready to sell it yet, but if I don`t use it for awhile I might think of selling it for something else I want(Need?)
