Why do Scrapyard knives take so long to ship?

A few days ago I ordered a 511 and Scrapivore off of the SYKCO website, but after not receiving any shipping information I contacted them and was informed that orders ship between 2 and 16 weeks after placing them.

I am not in any rush or upset at all, but just didn't understand the long turnaround time for something I figured was an in stock item. Are these knives 'made to order' or something? Can't find anywhere on their site that mentions a wait time of weeks or months.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Yes, they're pretty much made to order, or something to that effect. They might be made in batches, I can't recall entirely, but they're not a huge operation that pumps out knives, hence the wait. And yes, they're worth the wait ;)

To minimize waste, and be more efficient. Scrapyard does their knives in batches. So you basically have to wait until a batch is finished. And then they ship that entire batch out.

Awesome, thanks for the info guys.

I have an ESEE Junglas and was going to get a Laser Strike or ESEE-6, but I'm not impressed with the edge retention of their 1095 (as tough as it might be)...so I'm excited to see the difference in the Scrapyards in a smaller-sized package.

I have a camping trip later this month and am looking for a new blade. The delivery time and time it would take to acquire a sheath are why I am not getting a *11.

My scrapivore shipped fairly quickly still haven't got my dagger but thats just the way it works with Busse. If its made they ship quick if not you have to wait for the next batch.

I didn't like waiting the first time I bought one but after it came I was sure glad I had waited. It was well worth it both quality, and performance wise. 52100 is one of my favorite steels and they seem to have it's number. :)

Thanks for the insight. I was going to order a Scrapivore but looks like I will wait a few weeks for the Indy 1500. I handled one at the last show but I had my sights on other things.

When you get that dagger, please post a thread/send me some info on how she is, please. :)
