Why do some 25s come with the new fangled packaging and grease and some

They started using the new box with grease and loctite included just a couple of months ago. So whether you get one or the other depends on when the knife was made.

As Don M said, CRK changed the packaging in the last few months. I recently bought 2 mnandi, one had older packaging, the other had newer packaging. Just depends on when it was made is all. They changed the boxes on June, 17, 2013......so you just missed it....!
 
Indeed, my recent Large 21 (made in Oct of this year) came in the new packaging. It's okay. It looks nice as far as presentation goes. I mean, it's just a box. I do think it's cool that it came with a small tube of grease (no Loctite as the 21 doesn't need it), but I would have been equally as happy with my Sebenza even if the grease had not been included. All that said, I never had any issues with the old boxes CRK's used to come in.

No calf skin pouch? Weird. My small Sebenza "Glorious" came in the new box and a calf skin slip pouch. Maybe give a call to CRK.
 
Exactly, the gold leaf should have had a calf skin pouch for netidolweb's purchase
