Why do we just have to have certain knives?

You are walking down the aisles at a knife show. Though you have seen many nice knives, nothing has reached out and grabbed you. Then you see it, a knife that was meant to be yours. You know that there is no way you are leaving that table until you are the proud owner of that knife.

What is it about a knife that makes you just have to own it?

That gut feeling when you see it Keith, you know, you stomach gets tight and your head feels light, when i get that it's hopeless if i can afford that knife. LOL

Heck i really need Help! hehe

Different things make me want different knives. Some knives like Carsons & Mayos, I wanted because there was so much positive feedback about them on the forum. Others, like Centofantes and Horns, I dream about because they seem to be such timeless classics (even if Horns are awfully expensive for ATS-34 lockbacks). Others just look good to me. There is something really unique, for instance, about Bob Lum folders. I like his heavy use of titanium. I like his use of oversize nail nicks and Spyderco holes for opening. I think De Villiers simply makes a rock solid knife for the money. Sawby is definitely in world of his own. At the end of the day, I really have no clue why I like so knives and am lukewarm to others.

Pretty much the same as seeing a beautiful woman. You just know that destiny has put you in the same time and space for a reason. One always sticks out of the crowd above the others.

Regardless of your race or culture, everyones' ancestery goes back to the time when blades were not just part of everyday life, but were essential to it. Every culture has had "city" folk, and "country" folk, so the importance of a good knife differred from one clan to another, but they all shared some dependency on them. Now, walking down the show aisles, one here or there will tug at our genetic memories. One, just once in a while, will scream at you from the table, and your reaction cannot be controlled..it's in your genes....at least this is what I tell the wife when I come back with something I can't otherwise explain  And don't knock it. If genetics can get guys off death row, why can't they get us o of the doghouse?

I don't know. I am now lusting hard after a Scott Cook Owyhe in Snakewood.

why? because I'll just die if I don't get it!

Good topic.

I'm searching for the perfect blade. I have to get a new, because I might use it. This next knife i'm going to use. Well sometimes i change my mind and it's getting only the best treatment (the right amount of oil, soft cases,...) and i'll use my spydie-starmate instead. :)

well that's how it goes.
