Why do we Sell and then buy back later

Ok, I was thinking about this the other day. and monetioned it to one of the other hogs.

I use to have several basic 9's. Well, about 2 years ago, I traded it for another busse, then 3 months ago I got it back in another trade. So now it is back home. Why did I get rid of it in the first lace?

why do we do this. I have done this more than once. I know many of you have as well, especially those that have been around for a long time.

why, why, why?

is it that whole "Grass is greener" thing?

I don't know, because I don't do that. If I buy something, I'm almost certain to keep it forever, unless something very much out of the ordinary happens. What can I say, I tend to grow very attached to items, like good knives. :D

I did the same with a Basic 9 also...once it was gone, I realized it was damn near perfect!

These are simply our moments of weakness...

It is a human trait.

I've done this my hole life with Guns'a and knive's...never have quite figered it out:confused: Kinda like the old Cindrella song"you don't know what you got untill it's gone"

I'm shipping out a Busse today and have already sent an email last night telling the buyer to let me know if he ever sells it so I can buy it back.

I've sold at least 3 knives that I would buy back at the right moment. All FSHs. Two HHs (one w/ SnakeSkin) and one Variant (Band Breaker, Serrations, Green/White G-10).

The last one especially I would like to buy back. Some have been financially motivated, others along the "Grass Is Greener" mentality... No biggie though... ;)

I think that's part of it, a new blade comes out and you think, "well, I have a couple of these other blades just sitting around..." then you find yourself possibly like the older blade better...:grumpy:

When I buy blades, usually a pair and a spare, I make one a user, if I do not like it, I usually dump 2, keep 1 anyway. But lately, with some of the resale prices, I have to really like a blade to keep all 3. I still have lots of "pairs and a spare" that I probably will never sell, unless the resale price gets so high that it would make sense to move 1 or 2.

then there is the fact that you only have so much room in the safe...you have to sell some to fit in more...until you decide to buy another safe, then you have to fill that one, (and it doesn't take long!)

it's a vicious circle! :D
didn't someone mention that there was a 12 step program for us?;)

but one thing to remember, even if we miss them ol' blades is........................................................NO REGRETS!

AMEN to that!

Sometimes I see a knife which I've never handled before and I think "I have to have it". I sell an older knife to fund the purchase and when I finally get it I realize that I preferred the knife I sold - so back on the exchange it goes ;)

Haven't done it yet. I can think of two or three that I might buy back if the buyers would ever let them go. So far though, I've held onto all the Busses that really float my boat.

Asking why people do this is like asking why we change our minds or make mistakes. It might be cause we are humans with changing needs.

One of my first Busses was/is a combat grade NO-e. Based on how my ZTBM felt in hand, I concluded that the ZTNO was THE knife for me and found one for sale. I later traded it for a Paul's Hatchet in satin and black paper (big shock, I know). I got my hands on another one, because I hadn't found anything else that I liked in that role (medium camp knife). Then I sold THAT one to fund picking up a big chopper (non-Busse) that came up. I don't see myself getting another, unless Skunk finally decides to give/sell me his black paper one (along with the others in that set).

It is human nature not to be content. We think that the 'grass is greener' and then make changes in an effort to support that theory, only to find that our needs were actually being met with our former conditions/situation or selection. This is where the lament can set it. If you have something that works, stay with it.

One reason that I elected to keep the basic 9 was that I liked the heft of the blade and the amazing comfort of the handle material. Ever had pain in the hand while using the hard slabs of the BM handle? The 9 is another matter. It seemed to have a delightful balance which tended to allow superb control in the field as well as the kitchen. With a proper edge, the knife is a great all-rounder. Busse had a winner in the basic 9 and they would do well to re-introduce it. While I have collected other thicker and wider Busse products, the basic 9 is still the one I'd pick as a near perfect compliment to my next hunting trip. No, it isn't a mistress, but the BM may be an example of too much of a good thing.

For me this is easy to answer. I don't like debt ;) so I have a set number of Busses that I allow myself. Ones that I will use.

Now if I want to get another, usually to try it out since I can not make the big shows cross country, I have to trade or sell what I have first. Then, as with the case with my NO-E, I find out that that was probably "THE" knife for me and I thus I begin the hunt to bring it back home again.

I guess I better allow myself a few reserve knives just to be sure. :)

I have bought and sold and rebought and resold one of my user FSH 2x - passed on the third opportunity to buy it back... :o

Sometimes a blade 'speaks' to me... and I don't listen until later. :)

This is my FIRST Steel Heart, and I tried to get it back for a YEAR before the buyer sold it back to me... It's never trading homes again... :D

I'll take it!! ;)

I guess that's why I can't really bring myself to even think about trading/selling one of these...

I know that the second I do, I'll be kicking myself for quite awhile... and yes, even having REGRETS... I have (with tears in my eyes, LOL) turned down LARGE ca$h offers, 2 SFNO's, and plenty of other satin goodness... But with these, I just know that I'll have a large case of Trader's/Seller's remorse... But MAN... it definitely hurt turning down 2 minty satin finished SFNO's since I have none so far... If a certain HOG still had his BBSHBMLE, I'd have offered one in partial trade... But I'm kinda relieved that he already traded it off! Man, I need some help! LMAO

Ok, well I'm off to my INFIholics Anonymous meeting now... ;) :D:D
