Why do you collect?

Because it sounds better than accumulate :)
Some knives just call out to me, and they have been doing it since I was 5-some 63 years ago. What I desire has changed over the years, but once I do I have to get it(within some reason, but not a whole lot).

I’ve always collected something. When I was very young it was business cards, then it was coins, followed by fishing reels and poles, then knives. Stopped collecting knives for awhile got into collecting boots and shoes and stuff and now I’m back into knives 🤷‍♂️

I work a job to accumulate money that I then use to acquire physical items I wish to possess. I will likely continue doing so until I perish. Then my next of kin will acquire that which I owned and collected, only to sell it all for money that they will then use to acquire the physical items that they wish to possess.

I really, really don't like you.

But uhhhhh....yeah, basically what this guy said.

I like sharp pointy things, knives fit that bill pretty much. I’ve owned a knife most all my life. They really are useful tools to have. Besides, its easier and safer to use a knife to destroy a cardboard box than a gun, and a lot less expensive.

Well, lots of reasons. I like trying out different knives as tools to see what works best, a knife can do a lot, it can create a lot and I would like to... know about them!

There is another reason - as anyone with an addictive personality knows. I wanted to go a different direction in my life, and knives did help me do that and provide a concentration point years ago. They hold a sentimental association of the change I have been cultivating the last 5 years and the man I want to be (Prepared, helpful, ready, having a solution).

I did purchase them somewhat addictively but have tempered it and made rules for myself, set amounts to keep me honest. (Hint - Victorinox is a MUCH better knife to satisfy that addict side as opposed to a 200+ Spydie)

Like the grocery store or the casino, knife collecting promises good times, but without restraint, I will get ruined.

I just enjoy tools but knives are a step beyond with steel, design, materials... I want a SAK with my special scales and a special Vic and Spyderco blade and if I dare imagine it, a Microtech UTX-70 inside it where two layers would be. The idea of an auto SAK, locking or not, is my dream.

I don't know, man. Some of our stuff is Glock level expensive.

There is a primal urge to own the one perfect tool that can last the rest of my life. Zombie apocalypse. Sure, I've got lots of ones. But each one of them is the one. Maybe I'm a home owning office drone and my knife collection is the last vestige of an old world that hasn't been stamped out by Instacart, Netflix. Or maybe I'm just vain. There could be a song about me.

I do rather enjoy cutting stuff when practical.
