So I'm getting a Civilian, and I don't why other than it just looks so...Spyderco. Why do you have/carry one? Do you actually use it?

Why do the G10 handles only have one metal scale inside?

I heard production of the Civilian is moving from Seki, Japan to Colorado. Will they be in VG10 then?

Thanks,
Ian

I bought my Civilians because of looks and as an fine example of implementation of an idea. One of those form follows function items that Spyderco is so famous of.

G-10 is strong enough to survive without any liners but hard use spydercos are occasionally reinforced with liner and SS backspacer. Reason is may be e.g. that these additions makes manufacturing easier.

Hi Ian. The G10 version has one stainless scale to provide a metal backing for the clip screws.

There are no plans to move production to Golden, although the steel will change to VG-10.

I liked the Civi so much I bought 2. One to carry
on occasion and one to save. Its not made for utility that's for sure and that tip is very delicate. Why did i buy them? Well anyone looking at it can tell........its for harvesting mushrooms on my long and lonely walks.

Thanks all!
I only asked because I guess the Civ isn't going to be available in Japan next year according to my local shop. Thought maybe it would be made in CO with the new steel.
