Why do you like the BK2 blade style?

Well guys I have heard too much about the BK2 so I finally ordered one (and a BK9 to go with it.)

I have a question though. Is there any time when you feel like the BK2 is too thick? Does it work well for slicing, wood cutting, etc.? I get that guys love the 2 but I generally like full height grinds on my knives and I generally likes em thin. I will be interested in what I think of the 2.

I guess what I wonder is why you like this blade design so much. Price, steel content, Ethan being a great guy (I have talked with him several times and like him a lot), and all that aren't what I am after.

All of the above.

I don't know all the terms for the grinds and drop and all of that, but I just like this style of blade.

Price: at $55-65, whats not to like.

Ethan is a helluva nice guy.

I wish they made a BK15 ( a BK2 with a thinner blade ).

But I have no complaints for the money even if it cost more.

It would be nice if a model was offered in 440C with a Full Flat Grind, I am not going to lie.

I like the regular version for 2 reasons though, holds and keep a great convexed edge and second, hell built for stout. I have no issue opening a #10 can or busting open a coconut point down, strike pommel, cut, repeat.
 
Perfect woods knife. Excellent ergos, great balance, drop point with a 3/4 height flat grind, you really don't see the thickness until you start splitting wood with it, then, oh my, then, you reallys start liking a 1/4" blade. Different strokes for different folks, but in all my years of searching, I have never come any closer to my "The Knife". Perfection, IMO, and I'm not saying that because of Ethan, I'm saying it because there is nothing I have found that I can't do with it in the woods. I love a drop point, I love 1095, and since the Gen2 came out, the balance is better than awesome.

I like drop points, I like tough durable blades. The high saber grind on the BK-2 is awesome, I can whittle awesome feather sticks and carve great notches. I can chop well with it for such a short knife, and I can beat on it and drive it into logs without killing it...I haven't found any shortcomings at all really. The BK-2 is my favorite Becker
 
The first time I took a light swing at a 1" stick and sheared it off clean, I knew why I liked this knife. I am a big 1095 fan and I wanted something virtually indestructible.

I worked as a chef for a long time, so I understand blade profiles. Which is why I am not going to bother trying to use a BK2 to make brunoise (vegetables cut into precise 1/8 * 1/8 * 1/8" cubes).

I think the BK2 is a good compromise and the price is virtually impossible to beat. For PA/WV/OH woods, a bow saw, BK2 and a small folder or fixed blade is about the perfect combo.
 
Why do I like it? I have no friggin' idea. I just do. It is one knife that if I were going into a situation that I didn't know how bad or how long it could go, I'd grab it, I do believe. Maybe the stoutness. I know with a convex edge, it cuts like crazy, and chops all out of proportion to it's size. I dunno, to me it is almost like a handy little axe. In fact, I have found that it chops as good as or better than the Gerber Back Paxe, and carries a heckuva lot better.
 
The BK-2 is awesome! Even when you're taking your nutty....err beautiful loving wife out for dinner and watching her wrestle with the appetizers :) .

The BK-2 makes a great steak knife, although the look on the waiter's face was priceless.

That is cool you are able to bust that sucker out at a restaurant Mist :thumbup: I may take out my folder to cut food or something, but I'd probably have the PD jumping on me if I whipped out a BK2 :D
 
I love the Train Wrecker because it's a fantastic compromise between a knife, a hatchet, a prybar, and a hammer. :D :thumbup:
 
I think it's a great slicer. Having said that it is a bit intimidating when trying to slice thin. That's why it's now the only knife I'll use in the kitchen. I figure I can 'correct' this downside by training me!
 
Thanks guys. I'll have to see if I agree when it gets here. Like I said before I generally like thinner drop points in this blade length with a full height grind. I have gotten a couple lately with handles that are too small for me so looked at the 2.
 
The BK2 isn't the best knife for everything but it's a good knife for just about anything. I've yet to throw a task at it and have to decide - nah. I also like that it's comfortable to carry and not so long as to be super threatening to silly people.

Besides.... BEHOLD!
