Why do you order your blades with Liners (or why don't you?)

A few reasons I can think of why you would get liners on your blade handles:

- Provide additional thickness to the handle
- Looks cool
- Helps off set stress between handle material on steel

Anyone else have a take on this? I'm curious, as I have big hands and I'm curious of adding liners would give Linen or G10 handles that much more width in the hand.

Thanks everyone!

I totally agree with your first two reasons. The third, not so much. I don't add liners because it would take longer for me to get my knife on top of the already long wait. I find the stock handle thickness often suits my hand just fine.

Liners add a bit of width, but not much. If you double or triple them up then they can add a good amount.

I like them for the looks.

I doubt that they add much in the way of shock absorption.

Wheat, I love your avatar! Reminds me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it.

On some knives it feels better. My NMSFNO with liners is definitely better than the one I had without. I have a NMFBM with hand shaped Micarta that I WISH had liners. I'll probably send it in soon.

Honestly though, most of the time when I order them, it's for looks.

lol

I add 'em to some knives to thicken up the handles, and to add some color too.

I like the color contrast, but mostly (especially on smaller knives) I want to add the extra handle thickness. Not such an issue on Busse knives as their handles are about a great as they come, but on other brands (one in particular) I think it really helps ergonomics.

I definitely like them for the colors and being able to personalize the knife a little. :)

Definitely for color. Keep in mind when ordering a sheath that it makes the handle a little thicker. I didn't think of this when ordering my NMFSH sheath and its a REALLY tight fit

Those are all good reasons. I had some added to a few of my SWATmandus for thickness and looks.

I appreciate all of the quality responses, Thanks! Has anyone had issues with glue leaking on these? I've seen in mentioned in a few places on Blade forums, probably a poor glue job, but wondering if there is extra play or movement in the handles.

Glue? Busse doesn't use glue. The handle scales are only held on with several tons of pressure applied to the handle rivet flares when installed.
