This may have been discussed before. I have two coated bladed knives which are my larger fixed and a few smaller satin blades. I prefer the satin and I see most sell at a higher price than the coated blades. Why coat the blade?

So we have a wonderful choice of colours, and can buy them all ;)

Serious answer (well, the above still holds) because it makes them available at a higher volume/ lower price, as Spirch said. Finishing infi to satin takes a lot of effort, hence increased cost.

...and yes, it might have been asked once or twice :D

I make blades and I can tell you that putting a good satin finish on the blade takes longer than grinding and cutting put together. One wrong touch or a piece of anything gets on your paper and you have another mark to blend in. So it adds a huge amount of man hours to complete. It is mostly done by hand I would imagine. It is labor intensive, unless you got a horde of monkeys working for bananas, it gets expensive fast and those costs would be added to the price of the knife. So with that in mind, rough guess put another 200 or 300 on each blade to get the satin done properly.

Just about everyone here would love the return of CF but the complaints were too many it seems.

They do it for me, cuzz I get too stressed out when my Safe Queens get Scratched up even if I look at them wrong lol
Oh, and the cost, as others pointed out

They're coated so that I get the satisfaction of stripping and grinding on them. Then I have the satisfaction of knowing that the blade that I worked so hard on is now MINE. cuz no one wants to buy a stripper that's been all ground up on.

To avoid the cost of finishing. You will see that they charge much higher price tag for satin blade.

Why not stonewash? I suppose it can save the man power.

To achieved properly stonewashed finish you need to grind/sand it above 400 grit unless there will be grind mark left and make it looks not very great.
