Is it because of the cheap price? Maybe it's the straight handle??? Or is it just a very heavy duty knife????? It just seems like everyone wants to get their hands on one. I am still looking for my first Busse, and I was going to go for the NO, but you guys got me thinking SJ. I wonder what is better for heavy duty, and fighting? At least I know that if I order one now I'll get it before Nimrod. BTW, what is the waiting time on the SJ?

Yes, Yes, and Yes.......This knife is "Da Bomb"
I'm ex-military, in the field alot.....I wish I would of had this knife!

(and besides, every time there is a new order, Nimrod slides further down the list. I've got 12 on order. Oh, the life of a moderator

Probably not IMHO. None of the Busse blades are cheap and the SJ isn't significantly cheaper than other combat grade models of approximately the same size.

I think this could be it. Jerry offers very few micarta handled models without the ergo E-handle. Like one that I can think of right off the top of my head. And the SJ is it. Many of us find straight handled models to be much more comfortable than the ergo handles. For me, I find them somewhat more rounded in cross section than the more rectangular ergo's, which are also somewhat tall from bottom to top for my small hands. For traditionalists the SJ with straight handle "looks" more like the models that we grew up with. The ergo handles on the other hand are more high-tech whizzy looking in nature. Now the mastadon scaled ergo handled Steel Heart that Tony Palmieri had customized, THAT is a blade to bring joy to the heart of traditionalist and avant garde vanguard member alike. :) :)

I don't believe so. I would guess the SJ is less sturdy in the absolute limit than the Badger Attack or Natural Outlaw, since the BA/NO have broader profiles and wider aspect ratio. IMO part of the appeal of the SJ is precisely that visually it is not quite as "chunky" looking as the other combat grade blades from Busse. I find it's sleeker, slimmer, svelter, and sexier than the rest of the CG family. :)
It just seems like everyone wants to get their hands on one.
Especially our long-suffering INFI brother Nimrod. :(

For heavy duty, I'd vote for the NO. For fighting I'd go with the SJ instead because it appears to have a pointier tip on it for better penetration. Also, it's slimmer blade could be marginally quicker in hand than the NO. However, I am like Nimrod and don't yet have my SJ, so can't offer personal hands-on comparisons.

According to the website, the wait for just about any knife is 3-6 weeks. Those of us who have been buying Busses for a few years apply a slight multiplication factor to it. ;) But it's not quite as bad as the old rule of thumb used for estimating time on contract jobs: "Double the number and increment the unit." Which is to say that if the contractor told you it would take 2 weeks to remodel your living room, you figure it will actually be 4 months (double the 2 = 4, then increment the unit from weeks to months). Unlike the contractor however, you WILL for sure like the end product when the BTOJ finally brings your Busse Bundle. :D

Yours in nuclear linear time deceleration,
Greg
