Why does SOG have so many issues with blade play?

My SOG Flash 1 had a little horizontal blade play out of the box... no vertical blade play, thankfully. I took the knife apart, applied lithium grease to the necessary parts, applied blue loctite to the pivot screw, and tightened her up. No noticeable blade play to speak of and she still pops open nice and strong.

my Flash II has some blade play kinda disappointing... been keeping me away from buying other sog knives

Sog Trident folder, Twitch XL, Visionary2 - they all had the same horizontal blade play. You can try to adjust the pivot screw, but it's not the perfect decision for the assisted open knife.

My Flash II had some play also, but a twist of the pivot screw squared it away. I was going to get rid of it, but my Wife bought it for Christmas. I'll wait until she forgets about it...;)

With all the complains it seems to me it's not an issue, but rather a feature

Too funny RxEnergy! :D

I bought a SOG Flash 1 that had no blade play. It was so tight that the blade got stuck 1/2 way out. I sent it back and got a refund. Bought a SOG Aegis that was so loose plus the safety lock thingy would get stuck when using it, that it went back too. I swore never again with SOG!!

On a positive note, I heard that they used to be top notch knives, but this was not my experience, as I never bought one until about 6 months ago.

I bought a SOG Fusion Salute a couple of weeks ago and have been carrying it everyday since. This thing locks up like a tank, no blade play at all. Im looking at a Feild Pup next as by woods knife. Ive carried traditional knives for years and this is the first tactical style knife that I have bought, but so far Im impressed with it.

All of the assisted openers from SOG have a little play. I have a trident folder that had a little but I tightened up the pivot a hair and removed all of it. If you want to make sure of no blade play then stick to their more high end folders which have an entirely different locking system and are not AO. These would be: Vulcan, Tomcat, Visionary, Spec Elite, and Pentagon Elite. The Flash and Trident and Aegis do not use the arc lock and are Ao with some blade play..
