Why doesn't my blade have a spider on it?

I'm new to Spyderco's, but in the past couple weeks have started down the path to gathering a decent collection by picking up a Chinook I and today a Mini-Manix (at $85 each in NIB condition, I think I did pretty good!).

Anyway, I love both of them, and plan on using the hell out of them. My question is, why do some pics of these (and other models) have the spyder logo on the blade? Are they special editions?

Thanks!

Some pictures you see may be of pre-production prototypes and therefore not necessarily representative of what the finished production model will look like. Pictures like this on Spyderco's site will state this fact.

It is my understanding that the bug next to the hole is a recent addition. Sal added the bug because it is the Spyderco trademark. The hole is also a Spyderco trademark but many knives now have a similar opening hole and the spyder next to the hole makes it distinct.

My Manix 80mm hasn't any Bug logo on the blade, but the usual Spyder text is there. With or without the logo, it's a little bastard. :D

AFAIK the bug on the blade is a recent development. My only knife to have one is my paramilitary.

Cerulean--

I think you're right about the Chinook--it was probably discontinued before the bug started. (Which is really a shame--the chinook I is really an amazing knife! Thanks Snow!)

Yeah, it wasn't mainstream until sometime in the past year (that we we spydernuts noticed it).:)

Now that I think about it, I really like the bug on the blade, too. It's a nice touch. BTW Eric, enjoy the Chinook! It's a beast of a knife.
