Why Doesn't Somebody Make a Dundee Knife?

I have wanted a movie knife for decades now. It a amazes me that no manufacturer has cashed in on the iconic bowie of Crocodile Dundee. I can get a Rambo knife. I can get an Iron Mistress. Linder's Croc Hunter is close, but has the wrong blade shape. Then there is the one that used to be called the Jungle Ranger or some such that ebay sells now as a Crocodile Dundee knife. It is close, but not quite. I use knives. But some I just like to have displayed for the fun of it. Dundee's knife sure would look good on a bowie stand on my book case. I don't even care if it is 420 J2, just so it has the Case Bowie blade shape, only longer, with a fuller, thick curved single finger guard, leather handle, and large pommel. Somebody, please go make one!

Horn Dog there is a company right now that makes em. Dont remember the name but its almost an exact copy.

Here I found em. Down Under knives (( banned company for spamming and dishonesty ))

Hi Horn Dog -

I hear you on this one, I would love to have a nice, HUGE bowie like Mick Dundee's - for no good reason of course.

I looked into the down under knives version (the outback), and all the marketing looked great, but a little searching around here will uncover some unsavory material about the company that is selling that particular knife, so I have shied away from that version.

best regards -

Edit - added a few links from BF on this subject-

I also find that a respected BF member dealer (KnifeCenter) is carrying these knives. I would be interested in hearing if these are really decent knives or not.

Member Dyslide had posted previously that he was going to buy one of these, I wonder if he did and what his experience has been.

That's a shame, it's a pretty cool looking knife, great Bowie Style

They've been banned from Bladeforums. I won't ban talk about their knives but I won't allow a link to their operation, as deal-spotting.

Well, unsavory or not, that is the closest I have seen. XXXXX carrries them. I will not be using it anyway, as I have big Busses, Beckers, and the new ESEE Junglas for that. I just want it to impress my friends.....and my daughter's dates. I thank barrabas 74 for the info. It's just one of those knives that every big knife collector should have. As I said, I don't even care if it is 420J2 steel, but it is 440C, which is better. Heck, I even have a United Cutlery LOTR Sting short sword displayed, just because it looks so cool. Not every knife has to be a practical tool. Some are just for fun. :D

No wonder I had not heard of them. Blade Forums is where I hear about new knives. Too bad they did something to get banned. I can't be the only knife nut who wants a Dundee bowie.

Hi Horn Dog -

That is exactly what Dyslide said in his posts, he did not care if the steel was not top notch etc. for the use that he would have for the knife.

I would add that I have not been able to dredge up any negative comments about the knife itself from actual use of the blade.

Too bad the company could not have been more forthright.

Well I ordered one from a reputable vendor. It's a shame they could not have just said they were from Finland and having them made in China. No big deal for a display blade. It's just a movie replica anyway, but obviously not officially endorsed, or they would have called it the Dundee knife. If Esav doesn't mind, I give a short review of it when I get it. Or not.

A review of the knife would be fine.

The reason replicas of the movie knife are so hard to find has got to be that there was no knife, just mockups for the production and no maker cared to get into claiming the design and bothering with a collaboration.

That's not a knife. This is a knife! Busse Bushwacker Limited Edition.

Now that's a knife and a well made one at that Hd. I've got one myself a Busse BWM-LE one tough and purtty knife congrats.

Somebody is sure to post a picture of one of those GIANT Busse MOABs. I don't have one, but that's a knife! In any case, the Outback Bowie is on back order. We will just have to see what happens. If the original maker of the prop knife is still around, he could make a fortune getting royalties from his design. I'm sure that United Cutlery or Taylor would love to make them. Imagine what a good manufacturer like Ka-Bar could do with that design.

It came in. The Outback Bowie from Down Under knives. Overall, I am pleased with it. You can see my review of it over on the appropriate forum.

I've had the outback bowie for quite a while now. I tend just to collect large Bowies so I have many, but most are just for display. I have other blades I take to the bush (ahem Junglas ahem).
I didn't have any problem with the company at all. Paid for and arrived on time. Wicked sharp too.
I do war of 1812 reenactments here in Ontario Canada. I havn't used the outback, but I do wear it because the sheeth looks good with my uniform. especally when I have my bording cutlass on, My flint lock pistol under my belt and the outback by my side. I look bad ass for 1812. I won't be wearing it this season because I ordered one of these from Mike
