Why doesn't Spyderco make Delicas like they used too?

Used to be able to get Delicas with a nice simple AUS-6 blade and a plastic handle for $30. Then they "fixed" the plastic clip problem. OK, I'll buy that for an extra $4. Then they "fixed" the blade steel. Again and again and again. Now I can get a plain old AUS-6 blade with a slick-as-a-baby's-bottom steel handle at cost for about what I used to be able to get a plastic handled knife for, retail or I can get a gee-whiz supersteel, plastic handled knife for the same amount. When I ask why the strange price scale, I'm told that the steel handle costs more than the plastic handle and that the gee-whiz supersteel cost more than AUS-6. So I say, why not make a simple AUS-6 bladed/plastic handled/ metalclipped Delica, put it on the shelves for a lower cost and be done with it? If someone wants to spend the money on VG-10 or ATS-55 or whatever, fine, but when someone can buy a Gerber E-Z Out for $30 in the same store that wants $60 for a Delica, I think that stinks.

Oh, whatever happened to the simple plain-edged, blue-handled Delica of my youth....:(

End of Rant

Well if you really want a blade with AUS 6 there are other options out there. Try some of the CRKT stuff then. Something like the mo skeeter may be what you're looking for. Zytel handle, AUS 6M blade.

I think the changes they have made are evolutionary and continuous improvement and adjusted for inflation they have not really upped the price. They went to VG-10. I doubt that adds that much to what they charge, a little perhaps but worth it.

You can get the Delica for under $40.00 on the internet. I am not sure if its the latest model but here is one place I have dealt with http://www.ultout.com/spydercoinc-knives.htm

Your youth! So the 90’s were your youth, I guess that makes you a cranky old man. Looks like you hopped on the technological bandwagon since your not using a carbon steel slipjoint and are using a computer! And since you are on the net check out E-bay, in the past week 5 Delica have sold for between 22 and 32 dollars! More are on there now for even less. I’ll bet you just love progress and technology your only problem is you can’t afford it, I can relate to that, but I don’t go crying about it. Possibly your only intention was to express your love for Spyderco knives, in which case welcome to the forum. My opinion is progress is just that and I want the best tool possible which means, out with the old…

I think you need to find a new store. The Delica can be purchased from an e-tailer for around $45 and for even less at Ebay. I know what you're saying but, personally, I'm damn glad the company has upgraded to VG-10 and the Boye dent in the lock lever is a cool upgrade too.
