Why would they have a special order listed in the catalog?
IMO dealers shouldnt get free advertisement in a manufacturers catalog.
Isin't a dealer EXCLUSIVE already giving special treatment?I imagine it's because they don't want to give particular dealers special treatment. That or they already expect to sell out their sprint runs so they don't need to advertise.
No hard feelings, just a little curious, I don't want this to become another S35VN thread.....While I can see pros and cons to both listing them and not listing them, I don't see why Spyderco should have to explain every business decision they make to satisfy someone's curiosity. This one is nothing new. It has been Spyderco's policy for many years. Even exclusives for Ironstone, which was their own retail outlet in the late 90's, never appeared in a catalog.
Thats what I was thinking...Why not? Obviously Spyderco wants the best for their dealers because what's good for the dealers is good for Spyderco. They aren't competitors, after all.
Putting sprints in means more people will know about it => dealers will buy larger amounts for each sprint and have them more often => Spyderco makes more profit.
It seems like both sides would benefit. It's free advertising for dealers which in turn means more profit for Spyderco.
Because its one of their products, just like the other sprints they produce that aren't dealer exclusives. Why would they have a special order listed in the catalog?

because they aren't a part of the Spyderco normal production. They allow the distributers to advertise them
This sums it up nicely I think. No frills, nothingspecial, just plain old common sense, I like itIMO dealers shouldnt get free advertisement in a manufacturers catalog.

Last I checked, Spyderco is in the knife making and designing business...not in the free advertisements for dealers business.
I was wondering why not? Ex. the Bento M4 Manix, KW M390/CF Millie, etc....
Why only the ones from Spyderco themselves?
Anyone know?

I guess so, but its still a Spyderco product, I mean its really the same process as shipping them to any other dealer after production. If theyre doing a dealer exclusive to begin with, its already advertising. Why not let everyone know? Those who aren't getting the most up to date news from sites such as this never find out about the exclusive sprints.
By your logic, Queen should list the 2009 BFC Forum Barlow, and 2010 BFC Forum Moose in their catalog, even though the only way to get one was by being in on the group when we ordered them. That makes no sense at all.

Don't worry, I get the fact that they might not want to put the dealers in the catalog for free ads, but in my mind it makes sense to promote every product you make, thats allJust curious if Spyderco had any specific reason other than this to not put them in
Dealer exclusive orders can happen at any time and are often changed after announcement right up until production actually starts. That's two good reasons not to put them in the paper catalog. Maybe they could post them on the Spyderco web catalog, but if dealers really needed that, they would be asking Spyderco, and Spyderco would probably be doing it.
When it comes to special dealer runs and marketing, Spyderco can do whatever it wants. Which is what it is doing. Thats why we see what we see in the catalog, and we don't see what we don't see. I don't think its any more complicated than that.
