Why doesn't the Endura come with a wire clip?

Seems like something that would be pretty doable, makes for deeper carry, and for my sense of taste the wire clip is not only more aesthetic but simply more practical to use. Lots of other lightweight spydies are doing it... why can't the Endura be the cool kid too? The added benefit off it not gradually destroying my pockets is a nice bonus as well.

With respect, I'm not a huge fan of the standard spyderco pocket clip or the way it sits, and adding a wire clip to a knife without the purpose built divots to make it sit flush just isn't the same :(

It would be interesting to know how many people would prefer the wire clip to the standard and vice-versa.

I much prefer the standard just because it's more solid. I do like the deeper carry of the wire clip though.

Plus, the wire clip is flimsy and is not as durable as their normal pocket clip.

I don't think that's it... by that logic they would have never begun using them in the first place. rycen rycen you might be right, but I still think it a worthy endeavor.

C chalby , I'd be interested to know too. People keep saying wire clips are flimsy but I've never encountered this issue. I actually had an extra wire clip I was trying to mod and bend and outside of pushing the two halves in the opposite direction (which wouldn't happen if it was attached) it was really difficult to deform.

Maybe I'm the odd man out but I love wire clips. I enjoy the deep carry. really like the discrete look when it's in pocket, and it's just super easy to use.

I don't know whether I would call wire clips flimsy, but I find sometimes after I've used the knife, the clip sort of twists sideways and needs to be pushed back straight again. That might be a little OCD on my part.

I don't feel super strongly about it; if they decided that more people preferred the wire clip and changed it, I wouldn't be bothered about it.

I’m OCD and I don’t like how the wire clip rolls to one side after white knuckling the knife. No amount of tightening will keep the clip perfectly aligned. It’s gonna roll one way or the other over time. And for this minor issue, I prefer a more rigid flat clip.

That would bother me too, I just haven't had it happen yet.

I replace all wire clips with Lynch clips…

Yeah that's what I was talking about. It doesn't bother me that much, but that's why I prefer the standard clip.

I wish there were more affordable options where I am. Sadly the Lynch clips and other options in the states are not a feasible option for me.

They are nice for sure, but I prefer the subtlety of the wire clip when carrying.
I understand that. I often commute into NYC and if I have a knife on me, it gets dropped into my pocket instead of using the clip. Wire clip or standard, it all stands out too much.

I prefer both the LunchNW and wire clips over the standard. Both for deeper more discrete carry and also for “scratch resistance” with the wire clips. Wire clips have all rounded edges, so they never really scratch up anything like my other clips do. I know outs my own problem that I tend to walk and stand too close to things. I even scratch the steering wheel leather as I exit my car sometimes. Never scratched anything with a wire clip tho.

For those with a “twisted clip” problem with the wire clip, what if you didn’t crank it down so hard? Then the spring of the wire should just self-center the clip again. I can’t say I’ve ever had that twisting problem with my wire clips.

I've only got two knives with the wire clip and they both do it. If you push sideways against the bend in the clip you should see what we mean. The wire doesn't have enough friction to stay seated in the grooves to self-center.

I've never tried tightening the clip. I'd rather not risk stripping the screw, and it doesn't bother me that much.

Do you think it would help if the recesses were a tighter fit?

I don't think so. I just think inherently the FRN and the wire itself are smooth enough not to get great purchase.

Functionally it's mostly a non-issue. I guess one way to fix it if I were spyderco(and it was an issue that was deemed necessary to fix), would be to either join the wire at the gap at the bottom of the fixing point so it was more or less a continuous piece of wire, or even weld a flat piece to the fixing point and have a hole to accommodate the screw. Either way would mean a modification to the FRN molds and also added cost of modifying the clip itself.
