Why don't I like this knife?...

Hey guys,

I recently purchased the Kershaw Blur (S30V blade) from (( not a paid BF Dealer )). For some reason, I am just not liking it. Does anybody else agree with me on this one? I can't figure out why, but I just don't see myself carrying this very often.

I'm thinking about returning it to (( not a paid BF Dealer )) and replacing it with something else. I had my eye on the Spyderco Paramilitary, or maybe a Zero Tolerance. Nothing over 3.5" blade though (local laws).

Any suggestions? I guess I'm leaning more towards an easy to carry, harder use knife to replace the blur.

What I currently own: Spyderco Delica 4, Benchmade Mini Grip, Ontario RAT 1, Emerson Mini CQC 8, SOG Flash 1.

I've never handled a Kershaw Blur but you are comparing it with a Spyderco PM & BM mini grip, which are 2 of my favorite folders. If the blade is not calling to you, trade it in for one that does.

I'd get the ZT 0350 if the Blur isn't working out for you. Some people say the 0350 is a Blur on steroids.

Well, to each his own. I just got my first Blur yesterday and absolutely love it. If it doesn't do it for you it doesn't do it for you. Not sure what else to say but I hope you do ultimately find something you like.

I took out the assist on mine. I enjoyed it much more after that. It's still not a typical carry knife for me though. I don't really like the rubberized inserts. And the fact I can't put the clip on for left hand carry is a bummer for me.

I'd say the S30V blur can handle harder use just as well as the PM2, and I would even be more worried about the PM2 when it comes to the fine tip compared to the blur. Definitely consider taking out the assist spring and seeing what you think. If it's still not for you, maybe consider the Gayle Bradley. I measured the blade right at 3.5" but it might be a bit longer depending on how you measure, so keep that in mind. You could also look at the Caly 3.5 or the full-sized griptilian, both of them can do anything I've ever needed a folding knife to do.

I sold my carbon fiber blur cause I didn't like the thumb studs and I feel that the liner lock will fail easily

The Blur is a fine knife and I've owned a few, but I don't love it either. Looks a bit "mall ninja" to me.

Hey guys,

I recently purchased the Kershaw Blur (S30V blade) from Amazon. For some reason, I am just not liking it. Does anybody else agree with me on this one? I can't figure out why, but I just don't see myself carrying this very often.

I had a Blur and thought it was great, mostly I think because of the novelty value of it being my first AO knife. Then I got a ZT 350, which as noted, is the Blur on steroids. I loved it and sold the Blur, which suddenly felt very small in my quite large hands.

Then I got a ZT 550 and realised I was never going to carry the 350 again, and sold it.

I have no love for the blur. It is basically everything I don't like in a knife rolled up into a knife.

The more knives you hold, the more you realize what you do and don't like. Get something else and toss it up as a learning experience.

I recently bought a Cold Steel Code 4 and I am really enjoying it because it is thin and easy to carry.
The only similarity to the Blur is the aluminum handle, and I would definitely put it closer to the hard use category.

Now that I think about it, if your looking for small size harder use folder at an affordable price it's really hard to beat many of the Cold Steel offering's.

The Voyager series immediately comes to mind along with the Hold Out III and Recon 1. Hard use, light easy Cary that you can count on.

I'd second the Code 4 CNC posted form just the looks of it. Never held one but it looks every bit as good as he describes.

I recently picked up a Blur and it took a while for it to grow on me. I like it enough to keep it although I'll admit I only carry it once in a while. It does fill a void in my EDC line up

I can't stand assisted knives, that is an automatic deal breaker for me! It also has a recurve blade, another deal breaker. Those are just my opinions of course, lots of people love the blur.
The pm2 is a great knife, that would be my choice in your price range. There are a LOT of knives with less than 3.5 inch blades. Just browse the "recommend me a knife" threads and your head will spin from options!

I have the Code4 in spear point and clip point I love the thinness, lightness and strength. Just a little slick pulling from some pockets so I added some no skid tape. You all know where I got that idea. Now I love these blades

I hate the Blur's thumbstud. The blade is ground thin and it cuts well, though.

I just don't like the way it fits my hand, in usage or opening.

It is well made and sort of reminds me of a poor mans Microtech with the thin edge, aluminum handles and traction inserts.

And also, Speedsafe just annoys me, as does any assisted opener.
