Why don't you make anything larger than 4.25"?

AFAIK, the Police and Resilience are the longest blade models you make. I believe you have a market that you haven't yet tapped, those of us who comfortably EDC folders with blades of 4.5" or greater. As I type this, I have a 4.5" Demko in my pocket and I don't even notice it's there.

Because comfortably and legally are different things. But there are larger folders in the works.

I'll have the Resilience in hand by April, and it'll probably be about the longest blade I'd buy. Anything longer just ends up too thin at the point, and breakage is too easy.

I'd like to see a 5" blade (4.5" sharpened) from 3/16" stock.

I legally carry any length I want. Prolly the only thing right about CA penal code.

Length and practicality are two things that must go together in a folder. Anything bigger than a Military is really pointless as a folder.

I'm sure you want it to be as tough as it is long other than being a pocket machete

You mean like this one? It's has a 95% probability of being in my right pocket.

TO ME (and you know what opinions are worth) that thing looks almost comical in its size.

FOR ME, I would NEVER have any reason to carry a folding knife of that size. Nor would I ever purchase one.

(YMMV, just my opinion). My guess is that the market on a knife of that size is considerably smaller than the market for more practical blade length. Just a guess.

+1.

Don't see the point in ginormous folding knives, myself.

I would love a bigger knife made by Spyderco, but I don't think it will happen. They seem to be preparing for a future where any knife with a blade length greater than 3" that locks will be outlawed.

Eventually, any knife with an edge will be outlawed and we'll have to start carrying folding butter knives.

I'd buy one and carry it also. 5 1/2 inches being the legal limit in my state. It would have to be made of steel other than aus-8 or similar though.

I believe the Szabo folder is intended to fill this role. I personally don't have any use for anything larger than a milli but to each their own :)

Been living under a rock? Or just seeing what you want to see and ignoring the rest?

Spyderco may be hedging their bets with smaller and non locking folders, but several models over 3" have been released recently, and larger versions of the Schempp Persian and Manix 2 plus the new Vallotton and Szabo folders at least some of which will be over 4", are in the works.

Im with you CM, although my desired design would probably be a little different from yours.

I would like to see a lightweight 5" blade designed for food-prep. Something I could use to cut up a cabbage, a pineapple, filet a salmon, or slice a full sized loaf of bread.:D

It would be the perfect BBQ knife to take to more "remote" places

Of course, I would like to see a waved CM version as well:D.

If I get the Vallotten collab, I'm waving it :D

I think Spyderco has, to date, met..... no.. filled...... no...... BURIED (that's what I was looking for.....) the small folding knife market. They've done it.

I would love a line of big folders. I can carry up to 5" and I would like to. Make some light weight, make some beefy, make some wharncliffes, etc., but pls, pls, make some!
