Why double lugs?

I don't own double lugs but it was suggested I get them. Is it simply so one can open the knife with either hand?

I like the look of double lugs.
Being left handed, using a right handed knife without double lugs is a pain and requires both hands to open. For me anyway.

Well someone suggested their opinion actually. Some like them, some don't including myself though I'm not anti-double lug. You'll have to decide what works best or looks best to you.

On my 25, which has a hard detent in my opinion, I use both lugs for easier opening. I actually kind flip the "backside lug" with my index finger and continue through the opening process with the normal thumb motion. It is kind of a bad habit to get into however, because when I switch back to my 21's with single lugs I catch myself holding the knife with my index finger on the lockbar making the detent on those knifes feel stronger than they actually are. Fortunately, after about 4 months of pretty solid use on the 25, the detent had decreased slightly and I don't catch myself flicking the opposite lug with my finger. That or my thumb is getting stronger

If you don't know why you need them, then you probably don't. Some like the symmetrical appearance and of course there are the lefties. I doubt a right handed person would ever actually need their use. Even if you broke your hand you still could get the knife open.

Personally, I like the machining detail on the back of the single lugs. The knives are not symmetrical overall, with the clip, and the different slabs, so visually the double-lug doesn't resolve anything for me. I wouldn't pay more for double-lugs, but they are just fine if the knife had them to begin with.

I can enjoy watching on the machining detail on the lanyard pin,BOTH SIDES! :D

And when you hold the knife and look at the blade,it looks more BALANCED with two thumb lugs! ;)

I think I remember another recent thread along these lines... But I am getting old and forgetful so it might be my imagination.
The double lugs provide symmetry for the knife. If the knife has them, great, but if not the single stud works just fine:)
They look best IMO if they were originally designed for them from CRK and have the relief cut into the lock side.

Unlike the past, all the single-stud 21s have the relief cut into the lock side, even if ordered with a single stud, so double-stud upgrade is not an issue. Of course single-stud is only available on the 21, so that's the only new knife where this matters.
