Why flat grind?

Many find the flat grind a bit easier to sharpen and some also feel as though a flat grind makes a better push cutter.

Because only 130 or so are made and the blade is signed & dated by Chris Reeve himself. :D:):D

About the other question, one main advantage of a hollow-ground over a flat-ground is that it's easier to make.

Ted

Hollow grind is better for shallow cuts, as there is less metal imediatly behind the cutting edge.

Full flat grinds are better for deeper cuts (width of the blade or deeper), as it has less resistance. Hollow grinds flare out soon after the edge, creating more resistance quickly.

As Ted said, the main reason you don't see more full flat grinds is that they are harder to produce = more expensive. Personally I really like them.

The one in the 'How I clean my Sebenza...' thread is a flat-ground.
