Hello Everyone,
Just trying to start up some new postings as it was getting real quiet around here for awhile.
In many conversations with Tuhon Gaje, Mr. Sotis, and even Tuhon Sayoc and other notable martial artist, I always like to have them answer why are the FMA blade arts so effective. Here is the answer..
The filipino martial arts have been derived from indigenous martial arts that allowed oneself, family and clan to survive against attack. If your arts were not strong you died, pretty simple although brutal. For the last few hundred years the filipino people have continued to develop these arts into highly effective blade and stick related arts of self preservation. Most martial arts that are popular today did not develop in a region of tribal warfare or close blade range attacks normally found in the Philippines. From Japan to Korea, China to the USA the martial arts practiced most practiced are ones developed and held fast to a tradition that has not improved upon itself (just to perpetuate the tradition)in many a decade now. Some are adapting to the influence of eclectic martial arts and offering classes and courses of study in the FMA.Others (for better or worse, depending on the situation) dismiss the reality of self protection and train in the old traditions that have not grown. When the Gracie jiujitsu beat the crap out of so many traditionalist martial artist, look at what happened to the arts being practiced! Everyone was an overnight grappling master! Now look forward to our new year and see what is happening..the reality of the blade.. It is interesting to see the evolution taking place in the martial arts today.
