Why I carry a knife everyday

My wife and I were in Charleston, WV for a wedding over the weekend. On the way back through Ohio we stopped at a farm that has a roadside fruit and veggie market. We bought corn and some tomatoes and had a lunch of roasted corn there, too. After eating our corn my wife thought one of the tomatoes would be a great idea. Luckily I had my Lum Chinese folder with me. Sliced tomatoes without a problem and we were in 7th heaven. That's why I carry a knife everyday.

Awesome idea for a thread.

I remember one time while I was still working at the lumberyard we had just tied down a rather large load with some manilla rope (Spelling?).

Anyway we had a loose piece about 20 feet long left with a loop tied on the end. The guy I was working with was standing there talking to another employee when I suddenly noticed he was standing with his foot in the loop such that the rope was loosely around his ankle.

The customer got into his truck and started to drive away.

On a whim I whipped out my Endura, snapped it open, dropped to my knees and sliced right through the rope.

We all watched as the customer suddenly sped off with the frayed end of the rope I had just cut flapping in the breeze behind the trailer. He looked down at the loop of rope around his ankle and the short piece of rope still attached to his leg.

Who can say what could have happened if that knife hadn't been clipped to my pants pocket?

Knives are used constuctively much more often than destructively. But when you find yourself in a situation where you need it for either, it's damn good to have.

Awesome story DMW. Much more dramatic than anything I've been involved in thankfully, but a great story nonetheless. Once when my family and I went on a vacation to Virginia Beach, I brought along a few of my blades to show to a friend living in the area. Turned out the rented house we were in didn't have any kitchen knives! So my Ka-Bar and CS Vaquero ended up pulling kitchen duty. :D
