1. Revolutionizing the knife world with the C01 Worker
2. Something for everybody. They are not afraid to experiment with steels, synthetics, and deployment methods. They always have a knife to fit your price range. Don't have much money? Snag a Tenacious! Got a couple hundred bucks lying around? Snag a Southard!
3. Spyderhole. At first I thought this would intimidate customers, especially since I'm in CA, but I eventually bought a Delica and didn't give a crap anymore. I was hooked! The thumbhole has yet to fail me. No slipping my thumb off. I can even open it with two hands while wearing super thick gloves.
4. Cost effective. Especially the Endura. $60 for a 3.75" VG-10 folder with excellent ergos and outstanding durability? I'm in! Spyderco almost always sells their knives at a good price.
5. Excellent to deal with. I haven't had a personal experience, but everything I hear is that Sal, Eric, and everyone else in PR and CS is awesome

Tell me what I left out

+1 on steel selection in their knives. I don't know of any other manufacturer with anywhere close to as many choices!

Golden made... anything Colorado made I like to support since im a native. And their "seconds" sale is pretty cool too

Related to but a bit different, Sal is on the forums regularly and posts sometimes. Eric is also on. Sal's character and the culture he sets forth through the company is another big thing that keeps me coming back.

Their adherence to a "function over form" philosophy. I'm more interested in it cutting well than having it look nice.

That said, they still manage to make some nice looking knives. Guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Here is my view on the subject:

I have always been turned off by the look of a big gaping hole in a knife. When I first started to get into knives I stayed away from Spyderco, I just could not get past the looks. Then one day I was given a Spyderco Endura 4. I thought to myself, since I didn't purchase this one, why not give it a go. After using the knife for a month I was absolutely floored. I constantly picked the Endura 4 as my EDC over my Sebenza. The knife was just an absolute dream to open with the Spyder-Hole and the ergonomics absolutely bested the Sebenza. From there I was hooked, 95% of all of my knife purchases from that point onwards were Spydercos. I actually sold my Sebenza after carrying the Endura 4 as I no longer saw the point in it. I really was bummed about it but I can never go back to owning a knife with thumbstuds.

It also was my experience with the Endura and subsequently 15+ different spyderco models that I found my one grail knife. The one knife that had me sell all of my other knives in my collection (50+)...The Spyderco Military (plain jane G10 satin S30V version). I absolutely LOVE this knife. I will own this model for the rest of my life and I am floored that I did not discover this model earlier.

To get back on topic I choose Spyderco knives for:

1. Designing and producing the world's best production knife, the Spyderco Military
2. The Spyder-Hole is the greatest design ever thought up since the wheel
3. The many different models that Spyderco makes to help cater to customers (example the Endura and Delica and their many versions of handles and steels)
4. Sal's and Eric's values and ethics
5. The Spyder-Hole (even though I still think it is ugly as hell)
6. The Spyderco Military
7. Did I mention the Spyderco Military?

They 'listen' to what the elu's (end line user) want in a new version, changes, and mods in a knife. AWESOME.

You won't find this with any other knife manf.

Sal gets involved in comments on the threads. Something else Very unique about Spyderco!!

I think a lot of their beauty comes with their stuff being different

I have really taken to slipjoints, old timey knives. I got rid of most of my one handed openers. Except for my Spydercos. They are excellent tools. From the Military and Starmate to the Manix and Native series, they just make some good knives. I have been paring down my collection of one hand openers, I can't get rid of any Spydies. I regularly carry a slipjoint and my Starmate outside of work.

Also, they listen to feedback. We got a new Starmate for 2012, I'm looking forward to the big Native for 2013.

The starmate is a little outside my price range, but I've been planning on getting a Native for a while.

I'm like you, I like older, more classic looking knives and have a lot of slipjoints. The only modern knives I have are Spyderco. There's just something about them, that hole, all the nice blade steels, the different interesting designs, variety of locking mechanisms, etc. etc.

Variety of blade shapes and styles and the choice of steel. I just love the amount of variety that Spyderco brings into knife industry.

I thought nothing could replace my original riveted FRN/S30V Native as a pocketable EDC utility knife; small enough not to intimidate yet large enough to be useful. I was wrong... along came the G10/SS liner/screwed together/S35VN Native 5!

1. Spyderco makes the Native 5!

What is more homely, yet high tech, than a CF Dodo??

2. Spyderco makes the CF Dodo!

3. Spyderco makes the Sharpmaker!!

Stainz

While most Spyderco's won't win any beauty contests (my opinion) their function is top notch. It's hard to beat that thin FFG leaf shape for slicing.

I love Spyderco for giving those of us on a budget a wide variety of high performance steels. And they take care of us lefties with most of their designs.
