I was carving on a cow horn, based on what a guy at Hoggetown faire showed me. I had a really cool primitive knotwork design on it, and I was working on it with chisels in my living room, since it was just my almost 2 year old daughter Fiona and me on Monday, I couldn't go to the shop and use power tools. I figured it would be fun to do one with hand tools anyway. I was doing some serious whittling on one area, and the chisels weren't doing the job, so I tried my CRKT Mirage wharnecliff. Worked for some areas, but not enough belly. I checked around, and the only other folder I could find was this chinese POS with serrations. I was using folders because I didn't want to have bare blades around for Fiona to grab in case she got interested in what I was doing. I got two cuts finished, and on the third, the dull blade slipped and raked across my left palm, in the webbing between my thumb and forefinger. Opened it up like a change purse. Really ragged cut, too. Can't see it in the pics I took at the time, but I could actually see fat cells inside. I resisted the urge to harvest some for soap because of the risk of infection, but it was tempting.
I somehow managed, with a 2" penetration depth, laterally, to miss every nerve, artery, and tendon. Damned if I know how. Probably because Fiona kissed it better.
16 sutures, all external. The Dr. didn't seem to think any internal ones were needed.
Anyway, I've typed way more than is healthy already, so I'll talk to ya'll later, and post pics when I have my membership in order.

well, i am glad it wasnt worst than that! but just wait! :D you will soonbe on a first name basis with the people at the E.R.

Good to see you didn't sever your sense of humor in the process. I've never thought about makin soap while I was bleedin :D
